Question about vegas sportsbooks. Help Needed Please

Question

First off let me say i have never been to vegas and have only used online sites for wagering. My cousin lives out in that area and i am going to go visit him for a couple months this summer. he doesnt bet on sports, otherwise i would have asked him.

My questions are

1) do the sports books in vegas let you set up an account like on line books do or do you have to use cash or you debit/credit card for each bet you make?

2) is the only way to bet on a game actually going to the sportsbook for every wager or can you call it in if you have an account (if the answer to question number 1 is yes)?

3) If you win what are the ways you can receive your money? i would assume cash but is there any other options like checks? i ask because i plan on making a few $5,000-$10,000 wagers and dont want to be walking out with that much cash on me if i were to be lucky enough to win.

any help would be appreciated from the people who frequent vegas or live there

1) No accounts or Debit/CC. Be sure to sign-up for a players card because if you intend on wagering a great deal of money you're eventually going to be asked if you have one. I like wager at places that offer some comps so I can use them for when family or friends come to visiting. The comps are very small, but will add up depending on the amount you wager.

3) Cash or Chips. The chips would be the way you should go to feel safer.

Cantor Gaming will set up an account for you; but you have to wager at the book. Stations Casinos will set up an account; but you need internet access to wager sports. Leroy's will set up an account for you; but you need a smartphone to use their app for sports betting.

In the cases of internet and phone betting, however, you will have to use your cousin's phone or computer....you cannot bet across state lines.

Some advice here.....If you are betting 5-10 dimes, you would want to bet at the book....especially to shop for lines. Within a 10 minute walk on the Strip you can find 3 separate operations...MGM, Caesars, Cantor...each might have a different line on the game that you want to bet....Why not look for the line that gives you the best bang for your buck?

I completely forgot about the accounts that VG mentioned. I prefer to go to the window and not use accounts like that, so I blocked them out.

I can appreciate that you are always trying to be helpful in this forum; but there are a large number of uninformed people and it doesn't help them at all if you do not work here and understand the local scene....

Both you and Gamble04 have valid points.&#xD;&#xA;As far as station casinos sportsconnection is concerned, you need to have a Nevada drivers license and a players cards(which anyone can get).  So it takes more than just having money.&#xD;&#xA;However with Leroy&#x27;s state a residence doesn&#x27;t matter.

"&#xD;&#xA;...did I not say this? &#xD;&#xA;Also, judging by the original question....his use of the word "account" (IMHO) implies having money with the sportsbook and being able to bet with his line of cash in his account. How he makes those bets is subject to which book he uses; however the common denominator to all of them is that all bets, regardless of how they are made, have to be made from inside Nevada.&#xD;&#xA;As to the Leroy&#x27;s info...I cannot vouch for your claim of state residence not mattering; but their GPS system will not allow you to phone in a bet outside the state of Nevada....and, to add, I would avoid Leroy&#x27;s technology, at this point, until William Hill finishes their acquisition anyway.

I never sign up for a players card, or stay in a hotel w/ a casino. Why the hell do I want anyone to know my name if I take them for a big chunk. Also, when going large if you do, try to bet no more than 1K at anyone book. If you win, no questions asked. You may have to work harder to get down in time, and to get the best numbers available for more than a couple of books you will have to move it, but if you are down big on a game, don&#x27;t sweat 1/2 point too much. Why would you be getting down big on a game that you weren&#x27;t confident in anyway?

What you&#x27;ve described is very inconvenient. What types of questions are asked if you win more than $1K? In Oklahoma, you can&#x27;t win at poker without providing your name and social security number so that the casino can report your winnings to the IRS. Why would the IRS be any less vigilant at reporting requirements in Nevada than Oklahoma? Perhaps it&#x27;s a state law unique to Oklahoma, so that they can make sure the state gets their income taxes. My understanding from talking to them over the phone is that it&#x27;s for the IRS.
