Thoughts on a few sportsbooks in vegas....

Hit up vegas last weekend and just wanted to share some thoughts about the books:
 
Venetian
mid-sized sportsbook with plenty of seating and three huge screens along with tons of small TVs for all the games. they're generous with drink tickets and as long as you place a bet they'll toss you a couple of tickets. the actually hotel/casino is very nice. Not much as far as lines though, just your basic 1H/2H, but no props or anything like that.
 
Palazzo
This is a brand-new hotel that is part of the Venetian. They have a downstairs sportsbook but it is extremely small and has no seating. very basic lines. pretty much you place your games at palazzo and walk over to venetian to watch
 
Planet hollywood
Smaller seating area with a decent amount of TVs. They run promos (ex. you got a free baseball for betting the twins-sox ESPN game) if you're into that. Not a great place to watch games, but did have more lines than just halves.
 
Caesar
I didn't actually have a chance to hang out in this book but I took a good look while i was in line for PURE. Definately one of the bigger books in vegas. Probably a little overrated, but still theres tons of places to sit and tons of TVs.
 
Hard Rock
this place is like a closet. Pretty weak as far as books go. some high tables to sit and some other chairs, but that's about it. Don't waste your time.

Decent sportsbook at best. Lines are fairly generic and they are kinda cheap on the drink tickets. Waitress experience I had was nice, so I just threw her some $ and told her to keep it coming. You can sit at your own little tv, nothing fancy, sort of racebook-esque and watch the big screen as well. Dont always have Half Time lines
 
Caesars
Was here for football and its a mad house. Not a bad book, with a good amount of lines. Many tvs and chairs to sit at. Get there early on a Sunday for NF if you want a seat.

They dont give out drink tickets, if your siting in the sportsbook with some betting slips you will get served drinks at no cost. Not that big but a decent book. Some basketball totals are sometimes a point off then other strip books.

My favorite book with nice comfortable seats. They give you drink tickets after u place a bet, the larger the wager then more tickets u get. They have special seating for higher rollers. In the NBA playoffs they stop taking bets one hour prior to the scheduled tip of of the event.

I live in vegas and ill give what i think is the best book in town but its off the strip........
 
the Hilton.......can't beat it.......they having every type of line you want, props you name it, million tvs, and money lines on everything even if there a 20 point dog.......

Would be interested when the last time you have been to The Venetian. The poster was there last weekend and they had drink tickets. I was there 1 yr ago and they also had drink tickets.

This is the 1st I've heard of a sportsbook cutting off the wagering 1 hr prior to tip. What would be the reasoning for that??? And can anyone confirm this??

I think the Palazzo figures most people will watch games a the 40-40 club, which is adjacent to their Sportsbook.  One big problem with that is the ridiculously overpriced drinks at to 40-40.

you guys need to walk to the other side of the strip to the MGM book and the Mandalay Bay book. 2 of the nicest on the strip
 
or go to Summerlin and hit the Red Rock

what does ceasars consider high rollers? one large bet or a bunch of larger sized bets, just curious

Bellagio is the place to be. free drinks, no drink tickets. doesn't have all the action that some might, but my favorite so far. Comfy chairs. central location.

Seahawk. i was at the venitian exactly one month from today, placed two 1H under bets in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs. $500 bets and they didnt offer me drink tickets however there was a cocktail waitress serving me free drinks the entire time i was there. In some down time from playing BJ i caught rounds 4-12 in the de lay hoya/forbes fight in the sportsbook, didnt wager on anything and they still served me drinks.
 
As far as pulling the game off the board one hour prior to game time, ive never seen or heard of that before! I went to a different mgm/mirage property and the line was still available. I really cant imagine ceasars does this for football and dont understand why they did for for the NBA playoff game.

I was in Vegas last week, stayed at Caesar's for 6 days.  I placed an NBA bet everyday less than 1 hour before tip off.. one time even 10 minutes before tip off.

Thats very strange. The game I was trying to wager on was Game 7 between the Celtics and Hawks in Boston. I cant imagine they took the game off board early due to lopsided action considering is was a double digit line.

That's weird. I had more drink tickets than I knew what to do with. I probably had like 15-20 in my pocket at one time.

Has anyone ever been to the Hilton, I heard they have the best sportsbook in vegas.  I'd like a review or someone's opinion if they've been there.

if your a "smalltimer" like me we stayed at the excalibur and the sports room was nice.. good seting and alot of tv's. i dont drink so i didn't stay long in the room.

Hilton has the most props out of all the books..

I love it there- tons of TV's and seating, one of the largest ones as well..  highly recommended

The Hilton is probably the biggest by far. Tons of huge TVs and you can bet on almost anything. A lot of locals compared to the other books it seems. I actually preferred the Venetian or Caesar's because the atmosphere seemed better.

i lived there for a year..and southpoint is a great book..probably 20 big screens up. its further south on the strip so its all local sports bettors that know their shit...i spent more time there then at my house

do be passive about the drink tickets ASK for them, you think the bookies care how many slips of paper they hand you...look for the least uptight bookie and go to his line, chat him up a bit,"hows the games lookin?"

The reason you were unable to wager on that game is because Caesars Palace is part of the much-hated Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. company, which this season has not taken any bets on any games involving the Boston Celtics.  The reason for that is prior to this season, the incredibly greedy CEO of Harrah's bought a teeny tiny interest in the Celtics, and as part of his miniscule ownership agreement, his company cannot book action on any Celtics games.  Much to my delight, his own personal gain has come back to FUCK his company as the Celtics have advanced through the playoffs and will now play in the Finals and the bloodthirsty Harrah's books won't be able to book jack squat.  You don't know how much I love this.

Agreed that he won't get any action in the playoffs and finals but it probably saved his company a boatload of money from the Celtics and their ATS record this year!!
