Cheap? LV is most likely the last place on earth that one can refer to as 'cheap' anything...there is no cheap here, and don't exhaust yourself trying to find 'cheap' (unless you're looking for a crack ho, now that's cheap))
However, in reference to Hotels, there are deals, and there's quite a few of them; if you look hard enough, and contact the right travel agency. The absolute most economical Hotels to stay at on the Strip that are not only inexpensive but fun and safe to stay at are, The Excalibur, The Tropicana, Treasure Island, and The Luxor, nothing beats these four hotels in price range for a three day stay exclusive to the Strip...off the strip, Arizona Charlies on Decatur Blvd is by far the nicest, most inexpensive, with a restaurant buffet straight out of old school Vegas prices...California Club Downtown is a great deal, as is the Four Queens...although not considered 'safe' the North Las Vegas Strip; rooms can be had for $35.00 a night for three days stay....being cheap=a dump in LV (aka: E.Fremont St / Boulder Hwy

One block east of the Strip, across the street from the MGM, is Hooter's. They are cheap, easy to navigate around the casino floor.
I've said this before, I'll say it again: South Point. It's cheap, it's clean, has a great sports book. This time of year, has a huge pool, good buffet. Good locals place.

I just went on Hotels.com. You should check them out. I've used them before and there are some good deals on there. Here is an example, of what I found for a model stay:
2 Night Stay, Tue May 9th - Thu May 11th
Hooters $25 / night
Hard Rock $51 / night
Planet Hollywood $57 / night
Excalibur $29 / night
The Palms $56 / night
These are just a handful of options. There are a lot more to choose from. Keep in mind that all the places charge a resort fee that is not inclusive in the price.
