Breakdown brief overview
Thompson vs Hendricks. Hendricks was in a tough spot, fighting a skilled striker and potentially losing his spot in rankings and audience. Didnt know what to do with Stephen once Stephen defended the take down solidly. When the first head kick landed Hendricks face changed. He realizes he is in desperation mode. Stephen is relaxed.
Summary - Hendricks entire ground game was eliminated. Stephen's take down defence was solid. Out performed on the feet, Hendricks confidence fell apart. Confidence already shaky from losing key fights (hendricks).
Alex White vs Lobov. Alex fought well. Lobov really does not have diversity in his strikes. No takedown defence or BJJ. Bad cardio. He can hit somewhat hard (relative) but the way he gets his hits are not by skill and placement, no set up. Reach is small, no explosion from his jabs. He was a gimmick match up.
Summary - Gimmick match up. Overall bad fighter, above average punching power. Throws shots and hopes they hit. No set up.
Roy Nelson - Important match up for Roy. UFC as far as im concerned is his main income. He lost a few matches in a row. This loss may have sent him out of the division. He did not throw wild, avoiding takedowns. Stalked forward and for once coasted to decision. If this was not an important matchup Roy may have took more swings and pushed the pace. He didnt need to.
Summary - Rosholt was cautious of Roy's hands. Roy coasted to decision by having better stand up. More calculated Roy as this loss may have him leaving ufc.
Lahat vs Rivas - Lahat head movement is not there. His reaction is somewhat slow. Instead of moving away of strikes and reingage Lahat stands relatively straight on when he should move. Two KO by flying knee. Chin is weak by the way he was reacted in first loss. Lahat may have won by decision but someone down the road was going to KO him. Bet should have been KO Rivas (decision no bet). Rivas showed good submission defence in him first fight, confident on ground. Rivas avoid strikes, better stand up.
Summary - Lahat has good wrestling. His stand up is not so good. He was fighting a person with good submission defence, above average. Striking of Rivas is solid, lacks explosion although his knee was explosive that day. Lahat weakness is his chin (knocked out cold twice, not halfway) has habit of not moving away from attacks, slow reflex.
Scoggins - Someone can write this if they want. I was flip flopping on Borg or Scoggins. Scoggins record is not so great last 4 fights. Still was siding for Scoggins. Something changed from last year?
