1st 5 inning suspense tonight in Oakland

The Rays are now in their 27th consecutive inning without scoring a single run.  

What makes it all the more damning is it has been against the Mariners and Tigers. 7 pitchers they've faced in the past 3 games have ERAs over 4.5. I really hope this team doesn't sneak into the playoffs.

Well, let's take a look first at the biggest offenders during this 3-game drought of scoring. 

Ji-Man Choi 1-8

Jesus Aguilar 0-5

Guillermo Heredia 0-6

Kevin Kiermaier 0-8

Austin Meadows 0-11

In their last three games the Rays are 1-16 with runners in scoring position.  The only hit was the one that finally ended yesterday's game.  The Rays have also hit into 5 double plays.  Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire was probably on to something when he suggested after last night's loss that both teams were probably guilty of swinging for the fences as the game wore on.  Said Gardenhire, "I think in those situations, everybody wants to hit the game-winner. When you start swinging hard and out of the zone trying to do those things, it really works against you. Both teams kind of got involved in that a little bit."

I don't intend to put any trust in them.  They're not responding well in the role of huge public favorite.
