Just as we did not want to confuse Wright with Wright yesterday we
should not confuse Carlos Rodon with Jose Quintana today. He is not in the same
class and the Rangers will be hungry after getting shut out. I am not a big
Colby Lewis fan, but neither am a I a fan of the pathetic ChiSox offense, with
a 2.24 oera and only 1 quality outing against 13 right handed starters. The
Rangers counter with 3 of 6 versus lefty and a 5.52 oera.
Red Sox +117, Buchholz/Fiers
Nothing much changes with today’s matchup so let’s ride the BoSox
offense again. Today they stand at 11 quality outings in 14 shots at righty and
the oera is 6.94. Those are numbers that could run away with the A.L. East if
they don’t cool off. The Astros are slumping and cannot counter that kind of production.
Better to ride the hot hand at +$.
Pirates +106, Nicasio/De La Rosa
How fortunate for Juan Nicasio he landed with Pittsburgh and Ray Searage
at a point in his career where it was “turn it around or hang em up” because
that is where he was, literally. Rubby De La Rosa has not had that fortunate
experience and continues to struggle in a hitter’s park that never bodes well
for him. The Pirates are breaking out of a mini slump and have popped their
last 4 righty opponents for a 6.98 oera. Plus money versus Rubby looks very
good today.
There is a slim possibility I will have a fourth play if the odds move
in our favor, but no reason to hold your breath or hang out by the computer all
day.

Goose, I thought you would be all over that "Today they stand at 11 quality outings in 14 shots at righty and the oera is 6.94. Those are numbers that could run away with the A.L. East if they don’t cool off" comment.
I mean c'mon man, this is the BoSox I am talking about and you and bd_c are the most loyal fans they have. Thought you would love that.

I have seen Nicasio pitch a lot, you will know right away with him and the off speed.
His heater is good but not great, like many a pitchers he needs to get location with the change and make them swing and miss. When they are fouling off the change and sitting dead red, oh brother...

I told you in yesterday's thread that I can't bet on that knuckleballer. Drives me crazy with all the BB and past balls. Sox finally gave Wright the run support which was missing his last two starts.
I like your chances with Buchholz today and I will follow. His off-speed stuff is NOT what a struggling Astros offense needs to face today. Pen is stretched and Sox need a solid and long innings effort today from Clay.
AAA Lefty Henry Owens gets the start for the Sox tomorrow in case you missed that news. He has been very solid down at Pawtucket.

The problems Nicasio has are being addressed by Ray Searage, he should come around. At this time last year folks were willing to fade J.A. Happ too. Not so much now. Like I said, the move from Coors to Ray Searage is a career saver.
Related opinion: I do not know why the Rockies do not follow the Billy Beane example and draft a ton of young pitchers, develop them, and trade them before they become free agent eligible. Then, keep drafting pitchers, pitchers, and more pitchers. No good free agent pitcher is going to sign with the Rockies and wreck his career. They have no choice. They signed Kyle Kendrick last year out of desperation, for them and him both, because it was also the only job he could find. He gave them what they should have expected, an 8-19 h2h record and 7-20 for quality starts. It cost something like $5.6 million to do something they never should have done in the first place. When they did it I criticized it right here and told you all they did was guarantee themselves 5th place in the N.L. West. I also said I would have fired my G.M. when he brought me the proposal and spent the $5.6 million on young pitchers, but they don't listen to me any more than most of Covers.

Goose - I didn't miss it and versus Feldman it probably doesn't get any better. I am just waiting on the odds as we still need a profitable payback versus the computed probability.
