Yankees +110, Severino/Zimmermann
Severino is a real comer and Zimmermann is about to get a big taste of
American League DH baseball, no automatic out in the 9 spot. The Tigers are off
to a good start and have beaten Fernandez and it looks like bettors are
believing again. It is their home opener and the fans will be excited, but the
Yankees have faced two righties equal or better than Zimmermann and have
slaughtered both, giving McHugh a 135.00 starting era and Fiers a 9.00. Now,
before some troll tells me they are not starting Rodriguez, McCann and Beltran
today I will just say that is not as bad as it looks, for people that fear such
things. Beltran hit .285 versus righties last year, but McCann posted only .229
and Rodriguez .245. Romine has no record but matching .229 shouldn’t be
difficult. Hicks at .235 just about covers Rodriguez and Ackley is a bonus at
.326. I just add all that for the sake of people that fear substitutions in the
lineup. There are times it is no big deal and other times when it is an
aggressive move for matchup purposes, like sitting Ryan Howard versus lefty
starters to name one example.
