You take away Rivera, then the Yankees would have just went ahead and signed the top closer from the previous year...this year they probably would have K-Rod as their closer...despite their farm they will operate the way they do, which is being the bully of the league, every year they go after the top free agents and throw so much money that other teams can not compete with price wise....and when teams do try to compete with those prices they end up getting burned putting all their eggs in one basket and 1/3 of the time the player turns out to be a flop....the yankees do not have that problem because they have 5 different baskets so 1 flop doesn't matter. My point is that the Yankees remind me of a monopoly in terms of the business world.
The Orioles (McPhail) are a very smart franchise now, in not attempting to compete with the Yankees until they really think that they have competitor on the field...which will take time...the play in the toughest division. The top 4 AL East teams are the top 5 teams in baseball.....I think it is entirely unjust to compare the Orioles to poor franchise who play in divisions were the division leader is hovering around .500 like the Royals and Pirates.

As soon as he it the homer...I knew this was coming.
Congrats. That makes everything else he's done (or hasn't done) this season forgotten.
