ALCS GAME 2: NEW YORK (Hughes) at TEXAS (Lewis) PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES (Line: TBD)
SERIES THOUGHTS: I did not place a bet on this series, because:
"I think that this series is too tough to call. In my opinion, way too
much rides on the winner of Game 1, which I also think is very tough to
call. The series is a no-play for me and I will try to handicap each
game individually."
After watching the Texans implode tonight (in a game that looked very similar to Game 1 vs. Minnesota), all of the momentum has shifted to New York, who is in great shape to advance.
Game 2 This is a great spot for Phil Hughes. He had a dominating performance against the Twins to complete the sweep in Game 3 of the Divisional Series, and now he gets to pitch with the Yankees up 1-0, knowing that they will at least split before heading back to New York. So he will be pitching with much less pressure on himself, and he will be on the road, where I feel much better backing him (as opposed to at home).
This is a terrible spot for Colby Lewis for the opposite reasons. Worse, Lewis throws an average fastball and has a lot of loopy breaking pitches. I think that he is exactly the type of the pitcher that this well-hitting lineup can mash.
In my opinion, Game 2 is either Yankees or no play. I am taking the Yankees.
GOOD LUCK -- All comments welcome

I think this is a Yanks or no play as well...I am giving the Under a long look.
The Yankees are usually pretty horrible against pitchers they are seeing for the first time. I think this is the first time they are facing Lewis (I could be wrong). I remember back to the middle of the season, Yanks faced Sean O'hair (maybe O'hearn, some irish kid) with the Royals for the first time, almost got no hit at home. Next week, after being traded to the Angels, they face the kid again, and LIGHT HIM UP. I know that there is a lot of tape on Lewis, but...this combined with Hughes pitching on the road may make the UNDER the right play for me.

1 trend I noticed a long time ago w/ Hughes is that when the Yankees win they cover the RL: Hughes starting and Yankees win RL is 19-2.
I'm not writing off the Rangers just yet, but this could be a lot like the Tampa-Texas series w/ the Road teams winning.
Yes, I think that you know that I was a big proponent of playing the RL with the Yankees this regular season. But I hate to lay runs in the playoffs (although I will lay odds to take runs, such as the Braves).
ML today -- good luck

You may be right on the under, but I hate to play unders in the playoffs. Unlike the regular season, teams are just much less likely to give up and tie games means runs.
Good to you though!

That may be the case the first time through the order but by the middle innings it'll be a different case. The only way you beat the Yanks in the playoffs is if you have the balls to do so. I think Wilson did but he got pulled and i don't think Lewis does.
