"Everyone and their mothers" being on a team once again left that team as overconfident as the squares who backed them.  This is nothing new but bettors will continue to lose money on overconfident big favorites until the end of time.  The Angels' pregame number retirement ceremony for Brian Downing and Chuck Finley didn't hurt either.  Nothing leaves a home team flat as a pancake like a good old number retirement ceremony.  The A's had this game won before it even began.
