This play is pretty much a 'fade' of McDonald. Even though McDonald is 2-0 in his last 3 starts, he has given up 22 hits in 16 innings pitched during that span with 9 K's to 11 BB's. To allow 33 base-runners and only give up 8 ER's, shows how 'lucky' he's been during that span. I don't think he'll be so lucky against a Red Sox lineup today. McDonald has a 4.89 FIP (#165), 4.63 xFIP (#166) and 5.02 tERA (#159). He's a flat-out a very poor pitcher. Combine these numbers with his 1.48 K/BB ratio and a GB% of only 38% and we have a pitcher who can get lit-up against the best lineup in the league. Miller had a decent first start for the Red Sox, and has pitched pretty well in the minors this year with a 3.47 FIP and a 8.36 K/9 ratio. I like his chances of hanging in there with the 5th worst hitting team in the majors. Red Sox have an advantage in the bullpen, hitting, and fielding here. I expect this lineup to get to McDonald early and often, as BoSox will 'avoid' a sweep.
