Baseball has its swings, its ups and downs. The Rox, or Rockies have generally been on a huge upswing. But the Rockies got shut out yesterday and their bats went cold. I think this lull will linger for another day. This is where the Brewers sneak a game from the Rockies on the road. If you look at the starting pitching of the Rockies and ask yourself which starter would the Brewers most likely beat, it would be German Marquez. German Marquez has a 4.76 ERA through 7 starts and a 1.47 WHIP. Both of these numbers are much higher than the other 4 starters that started either 7 or 8 games(4 of them). The Brewers feel like they had a failed home stand losing 3 of 5 and will be itching to break out of their offensive slump. Counsell is well aware that Jhoulys Chacin will most likely need bullpen help. There are members in the bullpen who are ready to contribute productively and members that will most likely be blown out. It's Counsell's job to use the correct ones. Hint: Don't use Jorge Lopez who was blasted in 3 of 3 appearances since being called up. Don't use Kneble, who doesn't appear to perform like last year's version of a stopper. Notice when the Kneble was asked if he expected to be the closer now that he is back, he responded unconfidently, "Oh no, I just want to fit in." Not good! Also, don't use Jacob Barnes who's been getting crushed lately because he lost steam off his fastball and doesn't have the biting slider he had earlier in the year. Probably not a good idea to use Tyler Williams either who gets slammed each time it counts. There are others that can be used corectly in strategically placed situations though. Counsell needs to do his job here and figure it out.
