That is why it is called gambling. From a gambling point of view. It can be argued that bullpens are more important than the starting pitcher. A complete game in MLB is 7 innings leaving 2 innings for a bad bullpen to ruin a great outing by the starting pitcher. We no longer have Gibson vs Jenkins going 9 dominating innings against each other. Btw That great pitching matchup usually lasted just a little over 2 hours.

I use a manual process of analyzing daily box scores to build my Bullpen Power Ratings. In most cases, the end number is a reflection of the stats listed above with great consideration also given to overall talent, injuries, and momentum.
