Phillies (Martin)
- As much as I'd love to fade Medlen and the Braves 7 game home winning streak, I just cannot back this Phillies ball club right now. The bats are silent and the bullpen cannot be trusted as they are now 1-9 in their last 10. Add in the fact Ethan Martin gets his first career start after compiling an ERA of 4+ in AAA and this is an easy no play. Even if we got 5 or 6 decent innings from Martin, we'd then hand the ball to the 28th ranked bullpen in the league with a 4.51 ERA. Better yet, if we hold a lead to the 9th we'd hand the ball to Papelbon who has now blown 6 saves in his last 13 chances. No thanks.

Cubs (Wood) +119
- I can't imagine this being a popular play for most today as the Dodgers have bee playing out of their minds lately. Today features game two of this four game set. I like this spot for the Cubs as I figure this to be their best possible chance at a win in this series. I like it even more so with Crawford and Hanley getting the day off for the Dodgers as they both have been raking. Statistically the Dodgers lineup is still probably better than the Cubs lineup but I favor Wood more than I do Ryu in this one. Wood has done nothing but give the Cubs a chance to win when he toes the rubber at Wrigley as he has thrown 11 quality starts in 12 chances there this season. Ryu owns a 4.62 ERA on the road as he has thrown just five quality starts in 10 attempts on the road this season. There has been some chatter on the forum about the Dodgers lifetime success against Wood when actually tonight's Dodgers lineup is just a combined 5 for 22 versus Wood in their careers, that's good for a .227 clip. I'll roll the dice on the Cubs today as we enjoy day baseball at Wrigley.

Had you told me the Cubs would have 14 hits with Travis Wood on the mound, I would have unloaded every penny I had on this money line. Very frustrating one to watch. Everything that had to go wrong to insure a loss did. Wood threw his worst game of 2013. The defense was shaky. And the Cubs continuously squandered opportunities at the plate.

Two too many plays today. For whatever reason we steered away from our system as far as play total goes. Perhaps it was the excitement of being back home in the man cave watching MLB extra innings all day, I got carried away. I do not recall ever promising I'd never lock more than two plays but it's definitely a boundary I like to set for myself from day to day. Discipline is key. Still a winning day, I'll take it.
