To answer simply, no. Even IF Rodney is healthy enough to return and throw good, this pen is scary. Might even be enough to keep them out of the playoffs.
Starting pitching should be good, but will need to go 7 or 8 innings every night. Hopefully Zoom can come back before midseason and be back to his 103 MPH fastball.......but I doubt it.

Are the starters really that good though PJ? And can you see them going 7 or 8 every night?
Verlander is a stud, but the rest of them are scary as hell.
Bonderman is incredibly overrated and his best ERA and WHIP he's ever had were 4.08 and 1.30 and batters hit a career .268 off him.
Rogers is old and starting to break down. In the only 11 starts he made last year he wasn't very good and didn't even average 6 IP per start.
Nate Robertson has passed his prime and has only had 1 season of an ERA under 4.48! He alos got lit up last year and has a career BAA of .273.
I don't know what to make of Dontrelle Willis, we've seen some great stuff from him before but he's always given up a lot of hits but when he was on the impact of those hits was less because he gave up very few walks. In his best season he had only a 2.09 BB/9 but last year it nearly doubled to almost 4 walks per 9 innings. That just won't cut it in the AL especially if he continues to give up hits, i don't know I have a funny feeling he might be pretty good this year but I don't know it's hit or miss.
1 good starter followed by 4 huge question marks isn't what you want from a team that has such big expectations. Those questionable starters also lead to more bad starts which leads to the domino effect and a questionable bullpen will eventually have to eat up more innings and they will wear down as the year goes on. The Tigs bullpen had to pitch over 515 innings last season which was 5th most in the AL.
Remember as bad as the Tigers bullpen was last year they still had a better ERA then the starters did. (4.68 to 4.37) Damn I think I might have talked myself in an Under play on Detroit season wins.

Det bp is bad and i don t see DW doing well in the AL. He s so emotional a couple of bad starts and press, press goodbye season. Contrary to what i expected the D-Train s best efforts have come vs Al foes the last 2 years. Will they have trouble adjusting to his funky delivery? I might see what he does his 1st 1or 2 starts and bet whatever streak good or bad comes about. I don t see 11-8 and for him . Either AllStar or Bust

Detroit is probably the most overrated team in general in the league. I'm not sold on their pitching staff at all, bullpen or starters. Their batters are also all old veterans for the most part, and you have to figure they will eventually run into injury problems. I love Cabrera, and I think he's probably the third best hitter in the AL after A-Rod and Ortiz, but after that I'm not impressed. I guarantee you Maggs does nothing close to what he did last year, and Sheffield and Pudge are getting old now. Granderson is a player that I like, but I definitely think he's a tad overrated. The best hitting teams in the AL will be Boston and Toronto, and both teams probably have better pitching staffs than Detroit (Toronto has a lot of potential stud pitchers).

I was just doing a write for my Under Detriot season wins (gotta get the overs done too) and I was going to mention the age of the batters and obvious injury concerns, you brought up that and I think it's being overlooked. I do disagree about Toronto's hitters though, I think they will be a real darkhorse this year but it won't be because of the bats, the pitching will carry this team.

I'll admit, Detroit has one of the scariest lineups in baseball, and also a nice defense, but that's it. The pitching staff past Verlander is a disaster waiting to happen. And the bullpen is just as suspect. You can't win it all with problems this big on your team. Getting rid of Jurrjens and Miller was dumb, imo.

I'd say they don't have a bullpen, but they do have people that will have to pitch after the starters get tired................I just don't understand trusting Jones with a lead at all. Runnerup-that Chokowski bozo in Cleveland 5.07 ERA, 10.6h/9inn............regoddamneddiculous!
