Interesting article in yesterday's (Dec. 27) Chicago Tribune by baseball writer Phil Rogers. Unfortunatley, something is wrong with their website right now other wise I would post it.
Rogers said that part of the reason for the Cubs inactivity this winter (I personally think that's bullshit. They were obcessed with dumping the Bradley) is that they are waiting for the "right" CF/lead-off man to come along. They think that Boston will sign either Holiday or Bay, and with Cameron, Hermeda and others there, Elsbury might be available.
Rogers says it might be a three-way deal invloving the Padres where Adrian Gonzalez would go to the Sox, Elsbury to the Cubs and 3 or 4 Cub prospects to San Diego.
Very interesting and some real good hot stove stuff.

If Cameron and Hereda are the "replacements" for Ellsbury...that's just a laugher. They may think he could become available...but with Lee and Ramirez being free agents next season...and the Sox wanting corner infielding power bats...the Cubs have nothing to offer.
Oh...there I go again...typing as I read...now I see Adrian would have been involved and that is certainly more of a possibility. However...Castro would have to be involved and I can't see the Cubs giving him up.

As much as i would love to see this deal go down, there is no way the cubs have the type of prospects that the padres would want in exchange for Gonzo. Like you said sparky, castro is basically out best prospect and i can't see us giving him up

Cubs have some other prospects also. Josh Vitters, for one. San Diego has also had interest in the past in Sean Marshall and it wouldn't surprise me if he was available. Cub shave pitchers too -- Andrew Cashner, Jay Jackson to name a couple.
However, I highly doubt any of this rumor.

San Diego won't take Ellsbury or Buckholz so they want some proven players and can't say I blame them.
. I think it's the other way around the Red Sox won't give up both Ellsbury and Bucholz. I am sure San Diego would love to have both of them. Young high potential prospect who are more then major league ready.

Mikey you beat me to the punch, I was gonna mention the same thing. All I've heard the past 10 years is how Cardinal fans are the most "knowledgeable" fanbase in baseball.
But they cheered Big Mac at their convention who admitted using steriods for a decade and basically pissed all over the integrity of the game.
That doesn't sound too "knowledgeable" to me, Cardinal fans are passionate ones but then again what fanbase isn't?

Cub fans are a joke........ You guys have been rooting for a team that has not won a World series in over 100 years and only have excuses for losing, so enough said there.
Yes we will support Big Mac just like you guys would support Sosa. It was the steroid years, and while it sucks most players did steroids, it was not only the hitters, but the pitchers such as Roger Clemens who took these drugs. It was a great time watching Sosa and Big Mac hit homers ( I was there for 61, 62, and 70), was it wrong and do I feel cheated that it was a scam they hit these homers, no I dont feel cheated, it's my right to feel that way. So what should all of baseball do, throw out these 10-15 years of steroid use all together or accept that this took place and move on. The Greatest part is Cub Fans will be able to say crap for the next 5-10 years about Big Macs steroid use and while you get to say we are crappy fans now for accepting Big Mac you will continue to lose games and not reach the World Series for another 100 years. Dont once tell me that if Sammy Sosa came to Chicago you guys would boo him, I dont want to hear that, just like I dont want to hear your continued excuses for losing for years and how terrible us STL fans are for accepting Big Mac

SLUMP...that is the thing that has me so puzzled about the way they reacted to McGwire. I have been to many, many Card games in St. Louis, and some of my best "baseball friends" are Redbird fans who come to Wrigley each year. They are terrific fans, loyal, knowledgeable about the game and team's history. I realize that fans want to protect their own, but the reaction to McGwire is very low rent as far as I am concerned.

Hey, New York boy...before you shoot your mouth off any more about yet another subject you know nothing about, we booed Sosa unmercifully his last year in Chicago because we finally realized that he juiced, and he was only out for himself and nothing more. That piece of garbage is no longer welcomed here and if he dared show up for anything, he get booed out of the building.
He hasn't come back to Chicago since he was traded, and is not likely to ever come back. So put a cork in it, and worry about losing Melky and Hideki.

Funny you say put a cork in it. If I remember right, Sammy Sosa was ejected from a game against TB for using a corked bat. How long was he using this corked bat when he hit all those home runs, as well as being on the juice. I dont buy he accidently picked up that bat he had corked that he used just for BP. You accepted him back after he used the illegal corked bat like he was your hero. You only wanted him out of Chicago his last year because he started hitting terrible because he was no longer on the juice not because you amazingly found out he was on steroids.
Hell if they want to take the juice I say let them, it provided entertainment at the time and created memories that will last forever. As long as just about all of the players were using at the time, it happened its over, it dont make us fans any less knowledgeable. Now that the rules are in place I do think anybody who uses should be suspended, because the Steroid Years are now over.
