From what he has hinted at in the past, I think he is just an intuitive player. I don't think he crunches a lot of stats and numbers. He plays a lot of favorites and doesn't mind risking the juice. He has a knack for picking the right favs and laying off them at the right time. I think he just knows the teams and has a good feel for the pitchers and situations.

That about right, Target_9?
