Guys......I am looking for opinions on a sleeper starting pitcher who will win at least 15 games during the 2010 season.....give me the name and feel free to add commentary if you like.
This is for the purpose of entering a pool.....I will remember the one who gives me the right sleeper pitcher.
MANY THANKS

these are guys that are projected #3 starters or worse. My first would be Joel Pineiro. Pretty much any of the 3,4 and 5 starters for LAA. Kazmir can win 15 as well as Santana. The other two I like are Brad Penny and this guy is a #3 starter, but shouldn't really be, John Danks. Good luck.

look out for Liriano from the Twins to have a breakout year he has redefined his throwing mechanics in dominican republic and has carried it over to the spring. I can see him winning 17 games.

Kevin Slowey - MIN After Injury last year, and a bit of a slow ride back, he has looked GREAT in Spring Training. Plus with the Twins somehow powerful offense he should win 15+
One big unknown is how Target Field plays out. Will it be a Hitters or Pitchers park? At this point most signs point it to be pretty neutral. I hear the "Power Ally to Left Center" should allow for some HR's as there "could be a bit of a jet stream" on some nights to LC.

I've done 2 drafts and they've gone undrafted in both. Garland won't get you many K's, but his ERA should be really good in that ballpark at least. He's the Padres opening day starter this season.
Chris Young dealt with injuries over the past 2 years, but remember when he was just as good as Jake Peavy (in Petco at least) when he was healthy? From 06-08 he had a below 4 ERA and averaged 8.4 SO/9. He has a 3.57 ERA this Spring. If he's back to form...you certainly won't have to draft him until the final round.

I'm a Reds fan but I definitely agree on this one. In his last 9 starts of last season he had 6 wins win gave up 1 or less runs in 6 of those 9 starts. I had started to give up hope on him but he really came on strong last season, I'm hoping it carries over.

i'm a bit worried about the twins without Nathan closing games
Really I would not be too worried about the Twins losing Nathan. Although it does hurt the team to lose a guy the caliber of Joe Nathan. One of 3 things will happen.
#1) One of 3 or 4 guys will "fall into the Closer Role" due to their production at the end of games. (Guerrier, Neshek, Rauch, other) That player will then be given the chance consistantly, unless they lose their effectiveness.
#2) all the above will get their chances early in the season, based on best matchup and who is coming to bat. Don't be surprised to see Rauch throw in the 7th one day and the 9th the next. If this is successful, then the closer by committee will continue.
#3) all the above are failing when they enter a close game in the 9th. If this happens, which I doubt .... then there will be a trade for someone by end of June early July. (H. Bell or one of Toronto's guys are possibilities)
The Twins have too much riding on THIS season to allow the absence of a real closer affect them.
