How successful are systems?

  Curious who uses systems and if they seem to be relavent season over season for multiple years. I have created and used many “systems” over the years, but always also threw down way to much pizza money to really see decent returns.  Going forward going to dabble in a few systems coming up in future seasons.    I have a young math wizard who has been coming up with some pretty wild numbers.  Gl all

But let’s just say hypothetically for instance, that looking back over the last 20 mlb seasons you notice that to start the season for the first 6 weeks dogs<+150 are winning at a 47.9% so….. if the average line is +128 then you are making 9%. I assume you just take your profits and always be ready to use this system year after year?  Books surely can’t cover all angle especially with all the props that are available nowadays.

You are 100% correct. Systems are a waste of time and energy. Anyone who believes in Systems believes in gold at the end of a rainbow.

Yes, they work, and have been successful for decades 

Have a method that's hitting 64% let's see if it says true for the 2nd half of the season.

 Amazing.  Hope it continues.  As this time of year is slowest for my sports wagering i spend a lot of time looking at past numbers trying to figure out plays.  Excited for upcoming football and basketball seasons to begin again to put them into play.  Crunching numbers from the last 14 ncaaf seasons, seem to have found an interesting bet that has cashed for a 72% ROI.  Gl all

 I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.  It’s just a complete blanket bet. Interested to see if the numbers continue at the pace they have been for the last 14 seasons.   ( 10,000+ games)

In Vegas, I booked a lot of action from "system" guys who moved to town with dreams of not having to ever work at a job again.

And I had a saying:

"Blessed are the system guys, for they have found a way to beat us." 

Dobbstron ( my own computer system & algorithm) went 2-1 last night

For those who believe in systems, curious at what point of the season you would start if you are evaluating teams that are over .500 or under .400 for instance.   Would you not really start until 1/4 of the season in to see who falls into these categories if say you were betting “bad” teams to win after a win.  In the last 17 seasons you’d cash 53% of the time, and almost always at plus money…’.just for instance. 

do you mean system, or do you mean model?  "systems" (i.e "bet all dogs under this circumstance, etc.") are virtually impossible to beat.  a model is a different story.  I have developed both baseball and football models over the years that have worked over a long run

But the game evolves and becomes different so you have to adjust with that

Understand what systems not only have good record but actually make sense

Any trend or system can put together a streak, but ask yourself if it makes sense

Systems are just one method along with watching games

 Ok however you want to phrase it.  I’m sure your model is far superior than something like the Malinsky system, that oddly enough is referred to as a system ( not by me, but in fact maybe by the guy that first figured it out ), but regardless congrats on your model and continued success

 Not necessarily looking to find out the system, because one would have to believe that if they were the one to put in the time and analyze all the seasons, they should reep the rewards for as long as they can.  If the betting market starts hammering what your picking, I might move the odds to much and then it wouldn’t be worth it anymore.

 Oh for sure, but what about say like the bet the bad in baseball.  System says to bet the team that is sub .400 that has won their last game.  Hasn’t been a losing season in 18 years with wins coming at 53% rate……..something about the situation that should continue to hold true for years to come???
