Bigger bases for 2023!?is this little league with bigger bases?
C'Mon covers bruthas!
your opinion
to me it's like using a hitting tee when your a 6yo.
when i was in little league in '72 we had live pitching at 7 yo.
Bigger bases and wearing Oven mits while on base is ridiculous.
so is wearing a huge elbow cast.

I do not like the ban of the shift, cmon. I think a team should be able to place their defenders any which fucking way they want. Learn to hit the ball where they ain't.
Would it be fair if a nfl team couldn't use a nickelback?
The bigger bases thing is weird. I would be in agreement to having a bigger bag at first base only, like a double bag they use in softball. That makes sense. A ton of injuries happen on this bag more than any other.

@undermysac
I lose so much $ to the shift imo. I'll take a way better offensive team. As in, plenty of great contact all day. But it happens to be the day they hit to the EXtra guy all day long. Now we lose to a bottom team because %s ? I'm excited for this to get removed

Pitch clock I don't mind. Banning the shift is stupid and I don't see what it has to do with pace of play. I have no idea what the logic of bigger bases is? Anyone care to explain? The thing about the shift is it gives basehits as much as it takes away. I can't count how many times defenses have been in shifts and it's gone for a basehit when if they were playing straight up it would have been a double play. The reason batting averages are below the mendoza line isn't because of the shift it's because batters are all trying to hit 500ft homeruns and not shortening up their swing/making contact when the situation calls for it. The fundamentals in baseball right now are sorely lacking.

@Bigdoubleplay
I was watching the conference on mlb network not too long ago. When they asked Manfred why all these rules were made, he replied "it's to appease the fans"
Clearly they want more offense. Will that make the game better? I say no. Kids these days don't have the attention span to appreciate the intricacies of a sport like baseball. So the league is merely adjusting to the viewer's, cause they need a market.
If you look at the NBA with the rise of offense(and defense basically disappearing) in the last few years, I can't even watch it. I think it's boring AF imo.
To each is own.

No Shift is a JOKE...U should be able to play and align your defense anyway you want...Why MLB is watered down and becoming comical......See the ball hit the ball..How can u tell a team not to align a certain way....If there is a part of the infield that is wide open..hit the ball over there. Its not rocket science...One team will figure out how to beat the shift and then it becomes a copy cat league and the shift will go away..Let it work itself out....MLB needs to assist their players...

Why doesn't MLB just bring the Infield dimensions in or the fences in if they want more scoring/hits...Pathetic. No shift but they want humidor baseballs...Go figure.

Also I bet if you have Robo umps...Hitting will go up a lot higher...These umps are atrocious and set their own strike zones and manipulate it....

That's the saddest part really. It does reflect our society though, people getting handouts, college tuition debt being waved, participation ribbons for everyone etc...
What ever happened to earning something, working at it, deserving it?
Imagine if a pipeworker couldn't weld an elbow joint of a water main to someone's house. He kept trying and trying but just fucking sucked and couldn't get the job done. Should the homeowner still pay him and live without water? Give him a pat on the back and a "maybe next time buddy"

What? If you hire someone for job and he can't complete the job as agreed upon..then he does not get paid and you hire someone else who will get the job done..Not sure where u are from..but that's how it is where I am from.....If you paid him already, and he does not complete the job he has to give you the refund or u can file a complaint and or lawsuit against him and or company...Not sure what you are getting at as it has no correlation to the shift in baseball or assisting the players...

@davemsh
I was agreeing with you. It's sad that the MLB has to aid hitters because they don't know how to hit against the shift.
I started the pipeworker bit with "Imagine if".
I kind of know how it really works in real life.

Pitchers have all of the advantages but you guys want a shift on top of that? If going the other way was so easy everyone would do it.
this should bring back lefties and expose certain fielders. These changes weren’t just made for the kids all fans had issues with the shift, the nerds killed baseball

@undermysac
You guys speak as if hitting against the shift is easy. Even so you think the nerds want guys hunting or going for weak contact? Theyd rather fly balls or home runs.

And there unravels the main point imo. Maybe the nerds should stay out of it all together. It's them who started the whole launch angle craze, and then the shift was created as the trajectory of all the failed launch angle hits was mapped.
I think that baseball needs to start teaching kids how to hit the ole fashioned way again.
But, as Manfred pointed out, they want more fans and offense is the way to draw them in MLB's eyes.

What if the nfl were to take the same route? Think about it.
If the offense lines up with 3 wide, shotgun formation, and the league outlawed Nickel and/or Dime defense because they wanted more scoring. How would we feel about that?
