What determines a ''Quality start'' for a pitcher ?
Thanks in advance.
The post attempting to explain the 6 innings, 3 or fewer earned runs does apply to me. It is the general view of the baseball world. But; 6/3 is an era of 4.50 which is high in this day and age. And what of the guy that goes 5.2/0 and is not credited?
That formula is bunk. In my program every start is either quality or non-quality, depending on the performance of the pitcher in question versus the offense he faced. ALL starts are credited with a W/L and Q/NQ (quality/non-quality).
The W/L is determined by which pitcher actually did the the better job of putting his team in position to win. That I refer to as his head to head record (h2h) and his quality start record, as I said, is determined by what he personally did versus the offense he faced.
Any other explanation does not apply to me and what I do.

Hey Key, any value on Cinci +1/2 first 5 in case of a draw?
Cincinnati Reds +½ -115 for 1st 5 Innings
Personally, I would rather accept the push than lay juice for a half run that may or may not be needed. The 1/2 only does any good in case of a tie and won't save a 1 run loss. Your money, your choice.

The Reds have picked up their offense the last series. Good to see Leake back in town. I always thought he gave 100 percent. Watch out he may beat the Reds with his bat.
Yep pickes it up and threw it in the trash
