Are you seriously bashing Key because this team spontaneously decided to take a mental day off? He owes you nothing, hypocrite. Go start your own threads and make your own picks. Not to mention being a Giants fan and calling another team trash is pretty ironic to say the least. Putrid post, amazing.

Tigers have a great history vs Duffy, they also hit lefties very well. You trolls are only loud when Key loses, because you see it as your opportunity to pretend you know what you're talking about.

Then where's your Royals pick? What thread did you post it in?
And so what, does that mean they're gonna suddenly stop trying to win? Maybe players are going to be more motivated because it may be their last games in a Detroit uniform or who knows?

It may not be so spontaneous. They know that the team is selling guys now. So it's tough to get inspired when they know the organization is throwing in the towel on 2017.

I don't think Key was aware that they traded JD Martinez. Just saying...

Exactly. And this is not a team which trots out hungry young rookies looking to take advantage of playing time. They're old and uninspiring.

I just don't get why this butchering happened today and not yesterday or the day before?
Last game of a 4 game series. Nothing to play for. Brutally hot weather. Pack up the bags and go straight to Minneapolis tonight on a redeye flight. But honestly I don't know either. Just throwing some psychology out there.

I would say they didn't have their head in it in the first inning perhaps for reasons you mentioned, perhaps cause the loss last night was deflating and that first inning just kinda set the tone

It looks like (I could be wrong) sports psychology and motivation were the soup du jour last night. Have any of the contributors actually got a degree in that area? Are any of the contributors successful players, coaches or managers? Most Covers trolls, bashers, miscreants and morons probably got their education on Covers, and know absolutely nothing about the topic.
What happened is quite simple, geniuses. Fulmer, normally an excellent and reliable pitcher got off to a bad start. We don't know why, but he just didn't have his best stuff. Not even close to his best stuff, since he went in with a rating of 69.9 and scored a 22.4 for his effort. That happens, and it happens to all of them. To make matters worse the Tigers immediately committed 3 errors that led to 3 unearned runs. When those things happen you have the snowball or avalanche effect and it almost never gets better. Turn out the lights, the parties over.
What the geniuses also miss is that the Tigers scored 4 earned runs on 9 hits in only 5 innings versus Duffy, another quality pitcher that did not have an excellent night, as I predicted. A game era of 7.20 is not exactly his standard, but does show I was correct about the Tigers ability to hit lefties.
It is nice to know that sports psychology and motivation are so well covered on Covers, even if baseball analytics are dead.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn
