I usually hesitate
to play a guy before I have a data base 5, 6, 7 games deep on him but will make
an exception for Joe Musgrove. I think this is a guy to keep your eye on. After
compiling a 2.74 era and 8.7 to 1 K/BB ratio in the minors this year he hit
“The Show” with 4.33 innings of relief versus these same Blue Jays and
surrendered only 1 hit while striking out 8. He followed that up with 7
innings, 5 hits and 1 earned run versus the Rangers on 8/7, striking out 6 and walking
no one. That has given him an 0.79 era and 14 to 1 K/BB ratio. Liriano has been
a disappointment this year and has produced only 9 quality starts in 22
attempts. His offense has been struggling with righty recently also, with just
2 quality performances their last 8 attempts and a 2.91 oera. Out of the break
the Astros have faced 9 lefties, given 6 quality performances and established a
5.84 oera. The Astros bullpen was not stressed in the double header at
Minnesota yesterday as Fister gave them 7, Devenski 5, and the rest was cruise
control. They have plenty of arms today even without Devenski. Gotta back the
kid at a +$ price.
