Runline and Moneyline.
In simplest terms, a moneyline wager is a standard wager with odds always figured at a ratio against $100. If a team is listed at minus money, it cost that amount to win $100. If a team is listed as plus money, $100 wins that amount.
A runline wager is, in essence, similar to the pointspreads you are probably used to in football and/or basketball. A wagerer can choose to take of lay runs, most commonly 1.5 for a game. This will obviously affect the odds. If you have your eye on a large favorite, and the juice is too high, you may opt to lay runs to bring the juice down, often times even making said wager plus money. There tends to be a split opinion on runlines and if wagering them, the decision to lay the extra runs should come naturally from your capping rather than being a last minute decision for extra money. Also, keep in mind when wagering against runlines that the home team with a one run lead does not bat in the bottom of the 9th.
If you are new to wagering on baseball, I would advice sticking to moneyline wagers. Look for value plays that don't exceed -130. That way your team only has to win and the juice is not far off from what you would be used to when betting against a spread in hoops and/or pigskins.
