RULES:

Julio Teheran is viewed as the Second Coming and that is impressive for an organization that has spawned so many great young arms. He’s 20 and he’s put up great K/9 ratios at all level of minor league baseball. In 6 starts at Gwinnett (AAA) this year, he has 32 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched an a 1.1 WHIP. So what gives with his MLB debut at Philadelphia (May 7 vs. Kendrick)? I chalk it up to nerves. The kid looked great at times, getting ahead of batters early. Other times he quickly fell behind 3-0 or 3-1. If there was a “huh” it was that he did not really showcase an “out” pitch. So we will have to see if a more effective Teheran is on the mound in Arizona. If anything, I blame the Braves offense . . . they should have been able to put up some early runs support to help calm down the young phenom. They get their second chance as well against Joe Saunders. Do the right thing Braves.
