MLB Wild Card Play-ins
Twins-Yankees: No play. The game involves too much explosive potential. On paper, the Yankees should crush the Twins, but the line reflects that and the game is not played on paper. The Twins played well in their own division, but KC, Detroit and Chicago all imploded. They also did very well in Interleague play, but that is no surprise either, considering the A.L. went 160-140 in Interleague play this season. The Twins could not post a winning record versus either the East or West in the A.L. What makes them dangerous in this game is Santana. They went 19-14 in his starts and that is at least comparable with the Yankees 20-11 when Severino takes the ball. The total is very shaky. I get as low as 5 and as high as 9.5, which just happens to middle the number 7.5 posted by the books. Long story short; this is a good game to watch, but he wagering angle is pass.
Rockies +161, Gray / Greinke
There is just way too much love out there for the D-bax. John Gray has already defeated them twice this year, at Chase Field. There is no guarantee Zack Greinke will be in top form and righties are a significantly tougher problem for the D-bax than are lefties. That being said, I will also play……
Rockies-Diamondbacks, Under 8.5, +107, Gray / Greinke
MLB playoff games are all about underdogs and unders. There are no more weak little sisters to beat up on. These two guys are 19-28 over/under and both will be well prepped for this one. Both have high K/BB ratios, GB/FB ratios and neither surrenders a full HR per game. Their ratios are truly outstanding when you consider Coors and Chase Fields as their home parks. I wish we knew the HP umpire, but MLB assigns top crews only to the playoffs and guys with abnormally high or low numbers usually do not make the cut.
One final opinion: It would be worse for the playoff picture if either the Twins or Rockies win. Neither has the pitching to compete any further and the lines will reflect that, making more decisions like Twins-Yankees necessary. Lines of -200 or more are no fun in the playoffs.
