Pirates: It is obvious even to the untrained eye that the Pirates are hitting the ball much better lately and certainly far better than the Padres, BUT: What may not be obvious is that A.J. Burnett has discovered the Fountain of Youth and has cranked it up a notch, maybe two. He is 7-2 for quality starts this season and has turned in three straight quality performances. The same cannot be said for Ian Kennedy, who is 4-3 for quality starts, but has made only one of those seven starts in a hitter’s park. Ignoring the offenses, the line value of Burnett over Kennedy alone is worth 55.5 cents and I make the Pirates probability 67.5%, versus the 52.6% needed to have value versus a -111 line.
