Today’s comment: Yes, my disastrous 2-8 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is included in the record. You don’t believe me, audit it. Move on.
Twins F5, -113 (Hughes / Deduno)
The people have gotten so accustomed to the Yankees dominating the Twins it has almost become an automatic play. Yesterday’s win makes it 14-6 the last 20 and 1-0 so far this year. But I wonder how many folks noticed that with all the media BS about Andy Pettitte achieving another milestone, neither the Yankees nor Pettitte real had a great evening. Pettitte went 5 and surrendered 4 earned runs versus Diamond’s 7 and 2 and was clearly outclassed, as was his offense for the first 7. The public has jumped the Yankees bandwagon again, even with another clear mismatch awaiting. They are just 5-10 when Hughes takes the ball and 3-4 on the road. The Twins counter with Deduno who may be a little undervalued here. They are 4-3 with him overall and 3-0 at home. They also have the better matchup offense, home field and slightly higher strength of schedule. I tried to be patient and let the full game bettors drive the line down some more, but 5 inning bettors are not fooled, so it probably is not going to get any better.
White Sox F5, +105 (Hammel / Danks)
I don’t know whether to be surprised or not that bettors are still backing Hammel like he is suddenly going to become the Messiah he was last year. All of his skill set numbers have declined and the Orioles have achieved a 9-7 record in his starts thanks to 6 runs per game of support. That may not happen tonight with a resurrected Jon Danks, 2.11 era at home, as the opposition, with an offense behind him that has turned it more than a notch lately. The O’s did not get to Sabathia until the 6th, which is no concern of ours, and were shut out for 7 by Kazmir. Those are heir only two outings versus lefties in the last two weeks, both at home, and neither impressive.
