U don&#x2019;t bunt in that situation.  U are taking the bats out of your best hitters/top of the lineup and giving away outs.. if Springer bunted they intentional walk Altuve to force DP.  Astros had 3 cracks with runner at 2nd.. they are human after all...  they have not hunted in that situation all year why change now... they are winning 100 games.

As a guy who generally does not like bunting...a bunt was the right play with no outs and a man on 2nd.

Bunting takes away big run innings BUT we are not in the 1st inning.

A bunt gets him to 3rd with 1 out and even tossing the bat out being completely fooled by the pitch gets the sac fly for the tie. Game is still not over with 2 outs and at least the Astros can go to the 10th if needed.

The same situation was with Boston vs LAD earlier this year in about the 10th inning. Guy at 2nd and Boston REFUSED to bunt. An out was scored and guy still stranded at second with 1 out. Next guy hits a deep fly to RF that would've scored the runner. Next guy is out also with the runner stranded...

Boston loses in the next inning...
