Where's Papi? He is probably drinking himself into a stupor after the beating Matusz laid on his beloved Sox.
I want his take on Matusz since he says he sucks so much. If Matusz is so bad well the Red Sox must be a AAA lineup because they couldn't touch him tonight.
Matusz is showing signs he can pitch to his potential this season ... big game for him and win for birds

Now these are the Orioles that I've come to love and know. The pitching is falling apart and their ability to score runs goes right down with it. I think this will be their 6th straight blowout loss if my math is right. It seems just like old times again.

The O's just havent been the same since he was fired. Now everything that can go wrong is going wrong with the team. Good think Jones' MRI came back clean otherwise they would be without their whole OF.
Britton is progressing and it can't be soon enough that he joins the team to get Hunter out of the rotation. Jake I think, as I have thought for a while, is destined to become a dominant closer/back end rotation guy. He pitches great for a few innings but then loses focus and feel for his pitches and starts walking too many guys or leaving pitches in the middle of the plate.
Matusz is becoming very dominant. Where are all the haters and detractors, ahem ahem Papi and Sparky.
He has an ERA 2.87 over his last 5 starts and is looking like Matusz at the end of 2010. I still think he becomes the best pitcher on the team by season end just as I did before the season started.

Its actually the Curse of Davey Johnson

Matusz pitching well = losing streak.
Matusz pitching poorly = winning streak.
I guess you really CAN'T have your cake and eat it too.

It's funny you mention "extremely poor hitting with RISP". Have you seen the Yankees' struggles? Hitting .158 with the bases loaded last night. Ranking near in the bottom 13 or so in all RISP categories (bases loaded, scoring position, 2 outs, etc.). And yet they're only a half game back.
So while the O's have, in my opinion, played over their heads. The Yankees haven't nearly played up to their ability. And you can't expect Cano, A-Rod and Tex to fail EVERY time there's RISP.
And as for our pitching. Hughes and Kuroda may be able to be labeled "inconsistent"...but more times than not they've had good outings as opposed to bad ones.
I'm not going to put too much stock into anything right now because it's still over a month until the All-Star break. But, if I were to make a prediction, I would suggest that the current directions these teams are going in will continue. For the most part.

Sparky..The O's are a mess physically right now...not a deep squad, that's obvious ....The return of Markakis,Roberts,Reimhold and Brittan is going to be a boost to the guys...Don't think they'll freefall ....But we will find out soon enough...

This argument still going on? Orioles 3rd by the break, 5th by September 15. At least they won't match the futility of the Cubs, who are going to finish 6th in their division the last year it is possible to do so.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

hey bud......Today is June 6th and the Orioles are tied for 1st. How else do you want me to talk about my team? You are wasting more of your time trying to make speculations and july/sept. predictions than you are talking about what is going on in baseball right now

I'm not even the one who bumped this thread during their skid. But if you're talking about "right now"...I see that the Orioles have only 4 wins in their last 14 games.

Sparky I hope you know every team in the history of baseball, even 100 win teams, go through losing stretches like the Orioles have.
Even with the Orioles putrid stretch they still sit alone in 1st place. They haven't pitched well and haven't hit well while losing key players to injury. Even through all of it they have kept battling and are in 1st.
The Orioles have shortcoming just as all the other teams in their division. HOwever, the O's shortcomings aren't as drastic as you may think.
They just need to tread water til the AS break when they will get their key players back and have their rotation set.

Should Jake Arietta be a part of that rotation ?

Was told nolan will start extended spring training very soon and if he has no setbacks he will be back in 3-4 weeks.
If that holds true Kakes will be back before Nolan but having both in the lineup is huge. Roberts is eligible to be called up on tuesday and if he can play even average that is another boost.
Britton, tillman, lindstrom, and stu are hopefully ready after all star break
