I pounded the Mariners -110 and -1.5 +195 late last night.
The Mariners were 44-31 on June 18th and 10 games up in the miserable A.L. West. Last night, after again swinging toothpicks in vain, they lost for the 16th time in their last 24 games, and with that loss fell out of 1st place by percentage points. It for that very reason that I think this team will come alive tonight, motivated to re-take the top spot.
Pitching for them will be George Kirby who’s having a better season than people realize. Kirby has allowed more than 2 earned runs only once in his last 9 starts. In that one game, he was pulled in the top of the 6th after allowing singles to the first two batters. Kirby exited with a 4-1 lead and his pitch count at 93. The crappy reliever quickly served up a game-tying 3-run homer, and that’s why Kirby got charged for 3 earned runs.
I don’t think Kirby’s gonna give up anything tonight. Did anyone know….that since July 2nd of his rookie season two years ago, Kirby has started ten games at home on a Saturday, recording an ERA of just 1.63? This season he’s started twice at home on a Saturday night. On April 27th he struck out a dozen D-Backs in 7 shutout innings in a 3-1 win. On June 15th he pitched 6 shutout innings in a 7-5 win over the Rangers. In his previous Saturday night start prior to this season he shutout the Orioles for 9 innings, striking out 7, walking none and allowing just 3 hits.
His teammates have squandered his last 5 starts, going 1-4 while Kirby submitted a quality start every time. The team knows his 7-7 record is on them, not him.

Anything on how Seattle has done against lefty pitching?

47 pitches through only three innings is too many pitches for Kirby. I need him for nine tonight, but that was wishful thinking.
The Astros’ lone hit was a lucky bouncer the opposite way just inside the 3rd base bag.

George Kirby is not at his best tonight after needing 23 pitches to get three outs in the top of the 4th. He hit Alex Bregman to start the inning and the annoying Bregman later scooted home from 3rd on a lucky infield chopper by Jeremy Peña with two out. Bregman was in position to score that run because he alertly advanced to 3rd when Jon Singleton struck out.
Tough 1-0 loss. Maybe we’ll get ‘em next time.

Incredible, Framber Valdez gave up that lead in a hurry by walking the leadoff batter in the bottom of the 6th and then serving up a blast to deep left by the great (well, now he’s great) Julio Rodriguez.

Kirby let me down by completing only 6 innings. I know it makes little sense to criticize a guy who recorded a 1.50 ERA tonight while continuing his legendary Saturday night dominance at T-Mobile Park, but I was looking for a much more efficient performance.
And already we have a leadoff walk issued by his replacement, Ryne Stanek.
And then a 2-run homer.

Don't panic,, it's that POS Stanek. It wasn't Kirbys' fail,,,that's all on Scott Service and ridiculous haired Stanek. Fkn M's,, they have to score in more than 1 inning don't they?

They are unwatchable
What an embarrassment. I thought you made the correct call on the M's KingScorpio. Some team needs to rescue Kirby, he doesn't deserve this
