@JDD
GREAT stat on the amazing Mr. Tony Gwynn. The best hitter ever. IMHO.
Babe Ruth 8th all time in BA, .342, and 3rd all time in HR's with 714.
He struck out once for every 7.86 plate appearances. He swung for the fences...
Ty Cobb best ever career BA hitting .367, #2 in triples with 295, #4 in doubles with 724, #2 in hits with 4189.
He struck out once for every 35.52 plate appearances.
Today's batters league average plate appearances per strike out is 4.39

It amazes me...Boston...Who is struggling big time offensively...Gets a leadoff double bottom of the 9th with the bottom of the lineup vs a non closer for the CWS...they refuse to bunt the runner over...They have so hard of a time getting hits and scoring runs...Weird but...I guess...they think they could get another hit or 2 as that was what it would take to score the run.....

Players today are just bad and it gets worse every year. On pace this year to have the lowest BA of all time. This sport is in serious trouble...

Ted Williams .344 BA #6, so per 13.72 pa's
Tony Gwynn .338 BA #16, so per 23.22 pa's
Both great hitters. Can't say one is better than the other imo.

Ted, 521 HRs. Let's not forget Ted served in the military in WWII and as a combat pilot in Korea where he was once a wingman for thee "John Glenn." He lost almost 5 years of baseball. Pretty big compliment to be mentioned for anything in the same sentence as Ted Williams.

A foul ball hitter is worth their weight in gold.
Obviously, it runs the pitch count up but the BIG THING is getting the pitcher to think:
I ain't got my stuff today and can't even get the ball past these guys.

Seattle first and second nobody out with the 7,8, and 9 hitters due up. You would think a team that can’t hit a beach ball would play “small ball”. Nope. Pop out, another strike out for kelenic who they just will not give up on, and then a pop out by something called a cal raleigh who isn’t even hitting .100. how are you employed at the major league level if you cannot even get a base hit one out of every 10 ABs?
