Pineiro, Hunter not in lineup Tuesday

TEMPE, Ariz.

Right-hander Joel Pineiro was scheduled to make his second Cactus League start today against the Padres. But he’ll be going to the dentist instead after having a tooth fall out.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Pineiro will throw a “power ‘pen” (an aggressive bullpen throwing session) probably Wednesday in order to keep on track with his spring throwing progression.

Meanwhile, Torii Hunter is not in the lineup for the fourth consecutive day after feeling discomfort in the area of his groin surgery. Hunter was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum on Saturday and told the sensation was a result of scar tissue pulling apart in the area of the incision.

But Scioscia said he is not likely to play Wednesday and “he’s already stiff on Thursday” (a joking reference to the long bus ride to Tucson that day) so Hunter is not likely to see game action again until Friday.
