Players union already said Ortiz did not test positive for any steroid in particular... just had high levels that triggered a response unlike A-Rod who tested positive for SPECIFIC STEROIDS.

Manny tested positive after.

Seriously woop, you're a bitter loser. Just tip your cap and move on to next season. It doesn't matter whether you're impressed with the Yankees winning or not. When the Red Sox beat a Colorado team with half the payroll than that of Boston no one said anything. Tip your cap and move on.

Here is a simple and concrete concept for you.

As long as Revenue > Expenses on an annual basis. You will stay in business. Regardless of where the money comes from. A company can off-set its books easily to invest into another venture.

Companies do this all the time. And its all about balancing the balance sheet.

Yah you are right that NY is a great market and pulls in a ton of revenue. But, believe me if AOL time warner wanted to it could have a payroll like the yankees every year and stay in business and still report profits.

You hit the nail on the head: ignorance & other owners lack financial investment into their players, staff, facilities, etc.

And Yes, that is exactly true... the Twins owner is far, far more wealthier than the Steinbrenners & (and like others) he simply refuses to spend any of his money to try to put the best product out there like George does/did.

Messed up part is, due to revenue sharing, most of the owners that get extra money from teams like the yankees, are not required to invest part or all of it into their teams. They can pocket it and screw their fans over; and then claim they have no chance because they are a "small market."

...dont get me started. People that hate the yankees payroll are either severely clueless or just living in denial.

These are the same naive fans getting a mediocre product from their team's greedy owners.

ALL YOU NY HATERS SHOULD BE PISSED AT YOUR TEAMS OWNERS FOR SCREWING YOU GUYS, NOT GEORGE BC HE WANTS TO WIN

So let me get this straight, if the Balt O's (for example) put together a $250 mill pay-rolled team that was very competitive year in and year out; they competed to not only make the playoffs every year, but win in the playoffs; were a competitive threat to make it to the world series almost every year; they had great star players that were fantastic to watch at the plate & in the field, and great coaches surrounding them... you mean to tell me nobody would tune in or come to the park to watch this team?

Your not making sense, bc if all the above was true for the O's, not only would they get local/state attention, but eventually a national audience too. So then what does that mean....????

IT MEANS now you have fans and enthusiasts all over putting money down to watch games, travel to games, buying team apparrel. MORE IMPORTANTLY since they would have a large audience then major Corps would want to pay to market their brand and products in the stadium, on TV, radio, etc.

Plus, if these expensive players are high quality performers, then they are marketing/advertising revenue machines themselves. So when these players would come join the O's they would bring all of their endorsers and commercials with them, ADDING MORE attention and revenue to the team.

And lets not forget baseball is now made its mark over seas, so there is plenty of revenue to be generated through advertising, people willing to pay to watch the team, and purchasing of team gear as well.

In conclusion, to tell me other markets with owners that have deep pockets couldn't survive if these owners would actually pull some money out to spend on their team bc of where their located (their market) ...just doesnt make sense at all. Not one bit.

These other owners just dont want to invest in their franchises with a lot of their own money bc they are greedy and they have all their fans fooled that the Yankees are screwing everybody, when realistically they are screwing their fans.

People want the Yankees to just put money in their pockets and not try to win. Its ok if other teams go out and 'recruit' high priced talent, but when the Yankees do it, well, that's no good, we can't have that.

People who used the word 'bought' are just ignorant and don't really know how things work in baseball.

People complain about the Yankees and actually blame them, but they never lay out a plan explaining what the yankees should do differently to make them happy.

I'll ask this question to the panel here who hate the yankees spending.

Question: What would the Yanks have to do for you to leave them alone?

I'd love to hear some answers. Don't just complain, come up with solutions, i'm sure everyone would love to hear how you feel the Yanks should conduct their business going forward.

The Yankees are not a big market team. They DWARF big market teams. They are quantitatively different from every other team in baseball and every other team in American sports. They don’t just spend more money than every other team. They spend A LOT more money than every other team. The Boston Red Sox spend $50 million more than the Kansas City Royals? Who cares? The Yankees spend $80 million more than the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees have a pat hand.

Joe Posnanski is one of the best sportswriters in the country. Now that he has a job with SI more people will be exposed to him.....he's been writing for the KC Star for years. The guy is an amazing writer. One of the best I've ever seen.

Well as a TB fan, it gave me a ton of pride to see how these lessor known players, washed up guys, draft picks, rookies, smart GM moves, overachievers, etc., grew into a team built from scratch pretty much to go from god awful to the WS. Now that was something you can hang you hat on and be proud of. Going out and buying up the best talent to win a WS, big deal. Boring. Any GM was an endless bank can do that.
