Actually, its the posters w/ write-up scares me. Those are the ones that sounds like touts and looks like they're building a resume to become one. It all starts out with them tooting their own horn before they post picks.
Example:
I'm 12-2 the last 5 days and haven't had a losing day yet. Lookin' to keep rollin' as i have a late night release that is sure to win.
Be back with my play of the day.
2 hours later:
[Insert stats and trends from covers.com and other numerous sites that justifies the pick.]
Through games of Monday June 29th, the Twins had been held to three runs or less in 13 of their last 23 games. Kansas City's Gil Meche is off of back to back losses but he had previously produced five quality starts in his last six outings. He lasted at least six innings in each of those five starts and he allowed two earned runs or less in each outing. Meche is 8-5 in his career against the Twins and he's held them to a .238 batting average. Meche is 27-21 in day games in his career with a solid 3.92 ERA.
This game also qualifies as a very strong play under the Vegas Super-Steam Mover of the Day.
My POD: Kansas City Royals
Come now. This is ridiculous and I agree it is completely useless. Just like some of the trends these people post. But sometimes it helps when you talk about day v. night numbers or say you like a dog because the other team has 5 hitters batting over .300 against their ace that is going that night. Understandably there are sometimes too many reasons to post them all or a bunch of small leans lead to play. I love it when I have a lean and someone posts something about a certain guys success or lack of in that game that I may of missed.

And frankly, most of the discussions in here turns into kids berating eachother when they cross opposing point of views.
And storm of emoticon abuse ensues.
This is great point and is exactly what I think is so ridiculous but there are a few guys in here that have great angles and are good cappers and it helps to know why they are playing something and not just what. You can tell imediately who the idiot "kids" are.

everyone thinks they know what they are talking about when in reality noone really knows who is going to show up on a given night. even the best cappers. its a waste of time, there are really no good cappers to listen to in here

truth hurts, but u my friend are right
the only good handicappers are the ones with good money management, controlled gambling, only gambling 1 2 the most 3 picks per day and a little luck

yea dude, for real. im 23 and have been around huge gamblers my whole life, and people think getting umpire charts and all this bullshit matters, even in basketball with who is reffereeing a game. people think that if a refferee is doing a game then it will go over the total, nope, wrong... its up to the players and if they want to play defense that night or not. IT doesnt matter at all. you dont know whos going to hit a 3 run HR which will be the difference in the game. its a different player every night to step up weather its the team you bet or the team you bet against. for example - you could have posted 3 pages about how the red sox were going to win last night and how they have the best bullpen in the league,... well not last night. baseball players are human, even the best in the game are going to serve up a meatball or 2 costing them a few runs which will be the game. noone ever would have predicted cliff lee was going to let up 4 runs in the 1st inning to the white sox last night. some 1 tell me im wrong

And conversely to the "kids" bickering, its tough to find anything of substance because most threads are litterred with emoticon abuse. Generally, its a forum of adult male degenerates "blowing" eachother in circles with 'handshake' & 'congulatory' emoticons.
I'm not a pessimist; otherwise i wouldn't call myself 'Happy'', but there is a lot of crap you have to wade through in this forum on a daily basis.
I'm done. Ciao.

WTF i spend hours everyday to cap yhese games, i don't have time to an explanation.Who cares as long as someone is picking winners.
estes, that's the thing. Nobody knows how long anyone caps a game if there is no write-up. Could be 2 seconds, or 2 hours. Some of the older members may have put a lot of time into write-ups in the past, so they have 'proven" themself to a point.
Personally, I enjoy reading write-ups. Don't care if I'm on or against the pick. Of course, some of them are jibberish, but even those can be entertaining.
I'd encourage every relative newcomer around here to post some reasoning with their picks - even if it is one sentence outlining an important consideration towards a game. That way the rest of the board can determine if the poster is throwing darts, or has some concept of capping, value etc..
Forget the flashy Thread Titles, and put some effort into a writing up an opinion. That way, if it is 'respect" you are after old timers will find you eventually. Realize that there are many different motivations for posting here. But if the bottom line is helping yourself/others make a few crumbs by beating the books, write-ups are a way to go.

check runthebases.com out they are a 100% free MLB pick site. Every day they post their picks and why they like them. Hop on or fade them they are very streaky. Been following them for years and they win every damn year. And again, they are 100% free. I really don't get how they make money. Hobby for someone maybe?

Top 10 coutdown to why posters do not include write-ups:
10. Simply, no time.
9. In some posters' reality, it only takes 5 seconds to handicap some games. Just go against the public; especially if there is a brand-name pitcher involved.
8. Some are watching Transformers 2 for the 10th time.
7. No speekah da Engrish.
6. Speekah da Engrish but no writah da Engrish velly gud.
5. Some posters masterbate more than 5 times a day. And that is a lot of time not spent with hands on the keyboard.
4. Its a war in here. And like North Korea, some posters aren't looking to make friends.
3. Write-ups can make you a hero or discredit all knowledge of anything you think you know about sports.
2. Write-ups are overrated. Really. Let me tell you a true story...
And... the #1 reason!
1. See all the above.

The reason why, and I know from experience, is that while some people respect a solid writeup, most people only read them to find something they disagree with and argue it. I used to post gigantic writeups for college football that took an hour to do because I enjoyed doing them. But then some people would come into my thread and argue the stupidest little points and it isnt worth my time. Too many people who think they know everything around here, who refuse to take the time to do their own shit

Try being here a couple of years of this bullshit and see if you care then.
or 7 years !!!!...... you just gotta learn to ignore that stuff...the haters and the attention hounds and the ones who start shit for no reason....many losers come and go daily on this site.....
bibendi is correct.....people either wanna tail you or already have their mind made up, so a long explaination of your play helps no one.....the pick is all that matters and with a good record to back it up that really all you need.....after all, most bets come down to a few things.....home/away, momentum and key players .....most of which are obvious enough, but none make a winner black and white......
