Why would the Guardians at 51-51 trade Rosario for nothing?

Arias is batting .188 and 23

Rosario is batting .265 and is in his prime at 27. Hits Lefties well. 

I thought Kwan, Rosario, Ramirez, and Naylor were a good solid 4.

He is a pending free agent after this season...Guardians were not going to resign him...He is an average SS.....No team is willing to give up decent prospects for a 2 month rental of an average SS.....Guardians not going to the post season this year so its about playing the younger guys....

And then throw him to the wolves against the Astros in his first start . That doesn’t make sense either

He’s 27 though?! You guys are acting like he’s 33. I don’t know. He usually bats in the .270 not bad for an “average” SS.

It never ceases to amaze me how much people disregard defense in this game.  Baseball is not all offense.  Vlad Guerrero is another example.  YES I know he won the Home Run Derby and he hits tanks.  He sucks at 1b, baserunning etc and costs his team.  Overrrated both of them.

I was a bit surprised by this trade, as well. Amed has been a good hitter in the 2 spot for the Guardians. I’m not a Thor fan, so Guardians taking him, even though he is hurt….tells me they were desperate to part ways with Rosario. If he Rosario was due to be a free agent at seasons end, then this makes sense.
