1) The incident did indeed happen, Cliff Lee was just trying to downplay the story because he's a straight shooter and doesn't bother himself with fluff stories like that
2) Philadelphia is the home of CHOP - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the #1 Pediatrics hospital in the nation. Cliff's son has leukemia but is currently in remission with it
3) Philadelphia obviously has a much easier road to the World Series than any team in the AL

He didn't leave. He was traded. He had absolutely no say in the matter.

I remember hearing that oto. But I never heard it from either Cliff nor Amaro's mouth that it was the case. Apparently, as we've learned, it wasn't the money that was the issue here.

The Phillies weren't willing to pay the money last year (some money cleared up).........and they got a better pitcher..........now they made room financially and have BOTH
They made a mistake trading Lee the 1st time...........he was so upset......but he liked this team/town so much, that he forgot and came back
The current truth is that the Phillies have the best pitcher in baseball, and the next 3 are in the top 15............and the top 2 (Lee and Halladay) wanted nothing to do with the Yankees
This thread was about Lee's wife not getting spit on, etc............well, it DID happen, maybe not exactly, but it did.............and she and her husband can take the high road all they want, but listen to their words............"we wanted to be in Philadelphia........we love their fans.....love the city......."
Take from that what you want..............they were never going to New York unless they were the ONLY OFFER
