Watched both the 60 Minutes segment and this program last night and for the life of me I can't figure wtf we're doing out there.

 

The Taliban will never stop planting IED's, the soldiers spend all day in the middle of nowhere every day trying to avoid getting blown up and/or disarming them (IED's).

The Tali's launch random mortar rockets set with kitchen timers into bases at night. How pathetic and cowardly is that?

I'm not a soldier and haven't been over there but I get the sense that boredom, lonliness, avoiding pressure plates and having occasional skurmishes with a half a dozen guys wearing sandles gets old real fast.

I support our boys because they have no choice but imagine they're are just completely fed up with the whole thing.

I watched it as well + it seemed pretty depressing. It seemed like everyone was just hoping to serve their time + not find an IED, because they rarely if ever get to fight the enemy. When we leave, those farmers growing that garden are dead men for sure. The whole thing struck me as senseless + sad, though i support the troops as well.
