I'm watching the Sopranos gradually while I'm at work, but at home with the wife, we are starting this series.
What are people's thoughts on this series? Was it pretty solid?
I'll keep my thoughts here regarding this series, but please don't give any spoilers away in future episodes. I'm on the episode now where Walt went to get a distributor, in Tuuco.
I'm curious how they deal with prolonging the series, given Walt's lung cancer. I get this is the catalyst for his motivation now, but how can he sustain a series of 5 seasons when he's got a tough lung cancer to beat? Interested to see.

it's a great series, that kind of goes without saying. As far as lung cancer, as with any health concern, it can get better or worse. Also thinking back I am not sure they ever address the 'real time' even though it's over 5 years (seasons) it may be only a couple years. After I typed that, I looked it up and it is over exactly 2 years. Not really a spoiler, just letting you know it's not 5 years

Do you have any other series recommendations as well?

The Shield, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy (all completed), new shows Vikings, The Americans (both 3 seasons in) and a new show on USA called Complications, it's about a Dr. that comes across a drive-by shooting of a kid. He saves the kids life and then things get "complicated" to say the least. It's on USA's On Demand, 3 episodes in (I watched all 3 last night on a friends recommendation - it's awesome)
Breaking Bad is the best show I've ever seen. The arc of the series is unparalleled imo. It just kept getting better, actors come and go and it just gets better. It was the perfect series, it didn't stay around too long like The Sopranos.

The best tv series Ever..Walt's condition is a pivot point throughout the series. I've got all the seasons on dvd and I still binge on 5-6 episodes in a sitting. It's cinematic.

Deadwood as was mentioned above, very underrated. Dexter was very good, some seasons better than others. The John Lithgow season was the best by most peoples thought. If you like comedy, Curb your enthusiasm is great and many times cringe worthy. A lot like the Wire, but I never was a huge fan of it.
A new show that is only 1 season deep is The Affair on showtime. It's about an affair of course, but someone ends up dead and most of the season is the two peoples account of what went on as they are being interrogated. Half the show is from Noah's perspective and the other half is from Alison's. It's very good tv IMO.

Thanks for all your recommendations guys. For now, it will take awhile but I'm gradually working through Sopranos and then watching Breaking Bad with my wife a couple nights a week, time permitting.
Glad there's so many good shows to watch.
My wife really enjoyed the last series we watched, Homeland. I enjoyed that one too.

So I finished the first season of Breaking Bad. (Only what, 7 episodes?!)
Definitely now has kept my attention and curious to see where this goes.
One thing I'm wondering though, which they brought up in the last episode, was the "ingredients" to make meth. How they can't just go to stores and get the drug in mass quantities and they had to steal that other ingredient. Obviously, that will run out. . . and I imagine they cannot keep stealing ingredients, so, from a business perspective, wonder what they come up with to have a constant stream of supply to create their product?

To answer that question would be giving too much away. Just take it one episode at a time. It does keep getting better and better. One of the best series I've ever seen. Enjoy.

If you're competent and have a solid attention span, I strongly recommend The Wire. Season One starts out slow but it builds the series' characterization.
Many critics rate it the best drama series of all time. I completely agree.

Really good stuff here. I liked the Tuuco character, so I'm sorry to see him go. He is the sane guy who played Sniper in Training Day. He seems to have that 'crazy Mexican' role down.
Also, the scenes at the Tio's house were compelling and suspenseful. Very good stuff.
Definitely looking forward to watching this season transpire.

So just watched the episode where Walt shows up in super mart naked.
I'm really wondering how he now begins to create a drug empire (which I assume he does based on the shows success and length of time)
I'm also finding it more difficult to believe that Walt can hide his activities from his family. There's no way he can keep it secret while running his business full time. Something has to give.
Maybe he should fake his death or something.
I also, I'm somewhat finding the motivation factor lacking a little. After this hospital episode, it's like..... He knows he has 18 months to live, why not spend time with family, instead of away from them and lying to them.

Golazo-this is the best scripted TV series that has ever played. All the ends get tied up in the conclusion. Don't try to out guess Vince Gilligan.
This is good to hear. I haven't watched an episode in awhile, been busy. Looking forward to getting back into this either shortly, or when I've finished watching Sopranos.

Nearing completion of Season 2. Walt just had his baby and let the girlfriend of Jesse die from vomit.
Looks like it's getting interesting for sure.
Also, it's pretty clear that they are establishing that Walt's wife has a thing for the boss that she works for. My guess is that they end up having an affair and Walt finds out maybe, and whacks him.

Been awhile since I posted, but I have been moving along and about to complete season 3.
I am very enthusiastic about this show. The dealings with the cartels/ Fring dynamic is interesting and now that Walt is the full time employee of Pollos Hermanos, there's some great story lines that can come of this. I am entertained, and like how there's both deep/contemplative episodes (like the FLY episode) but also some action episodes.
I'm going to finish Season 3 (two more episodes left to watch) today.

That "Fly" episode was the worst episode in the entire series IMO. I believe it was the next to last show of the season. I've noticed that the next to last show in several series is weak and has very few characters than most because the budget has been exhausted and they center it around a limited number of characters to keep from paying more than they need to. If you look back at that show notice how few of the normal cast appear.

I saw Vince Gilligan do an interview where he acknowledged "The Fly" episode was a concession to budget constraints.

How anyone can compare this series to The Wire is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, this is a good show, but no where near the greatness of The Wire.
There's too many filler scenes in each episode. I watch it with closed caption so I catch everything that's going on.
I can see why people like it though. It's a good show with great acting. The story is very easy to follow and it takes a moron to get lost. I hate to compare what's considered the 2 greatest drama shows in TV history, but there's a lot more going on in The Wire on so many different levels. Everyone that I've met that watched both shows agree that The Wire is better. According to IMDB, Breaking Bad scores a 9.5 and The Wire a 9.4, which I cannot understand.
Breaking Bad is a good show but a bit Over-rated in my opinion.
