Best Director - Ang Lee for Life of Pi (I thought that was a freeking porno from the name) instead of Steven Spielbergfor Lincoln?
NOT as much "shockers" as a "SUPRISE"
Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay - Chris Terrio for Argo instead of Tony Kushner for Lincoln. everything I read said his adaptation of Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln was a LOCK
even though he won Best Supporting Actor at every other award show, I'm STILL suprised that Christoph Waltz won for Django Unchained over Robert DiNero, Alan Arkin and Philip Seymore Hoffman and esp Tommy Lee Jones who's Thaddeus Stevens in Lincoln was one of the BEST performances I have seen in decades
and HOW much EGG does the "Academy" have on it's face after Argo wins Best Picture and they never NOMINATE Ben Affleck for Best Director? I think THAT'S a FIRST
Ang Lee for Life of Pi? REALLY?

Ang Lee's win is the biggest upset. Maybe voters thought Lee deserves more recognition for a harder-to-make film instead of heavily decorated Spieberg?
Previously, Argo received award from Writers Guild of America. So best adapted screenplay award isn't surprising.
Later released Django Unchained seems to have the most momentum in gaining popularity
Justice prevailed when Argo won despite lacking director nomination.

I liked Lincoln and thought BOTH Spielberg AND Tommy Lee Jones got screwed BUT IF it didn't win the Oscar, I'm glad Argo did. it's on Dish-TV pay per view starting next week. Mrs and I will definately watch

Seems like this is the 4th time or so.....that a best picture winner's director didn't get nominated ....
Affleck is in pretty good company.....so I wouldn't get just too upset.... never won? *Kubrick...Hitchcock...Altman.....Welles...Lumet...Bergman...Hawks...Kurosawa....Fellini Scorsese with only 1
BTW....don't get suckered into seeing that Amour.... *fine film yes.....but a 2 hour plus punch to the gut...you'll be depressed for days......
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

I thought Argo was a good story. Fun to watch and a little suspenseful but Oscar worthy I think not. After I got done watching it I said just what I said above... that was a nice movie. But I don't have the need to watch it ever again. If there is anything about Argo that is Oscar worthy was how amazing of a job they did replicating history from the perspective of reproducing the exact look of the players, events and location as deplicted in many a home movie/News Network feeds during the actual time period.

Agree with Jesron....nothing at all extra special here *done well and I enjoyed it....but pretty much the standard fare...good guys win and ride off into the sunset kinda thing....BTW as the bad guys in their crappy jeeps keep pace with a jumbo jet.............................. until take-off
Affleck cruises thru the entire movie....same expression/no emotion.....from the Chuck Norris school of acting maybe.......fairly manipulative and predictable with no character development whatsoever....but fun to watch and a pretty fast 2 hours........

Argo was good but it's not a movie I'll be watching for the 30th time on AMC in 10 yrs.
A lot of people thought Lincoln was boring but I see it being one of those movies I do watch on AMC in 10 yrs just because of Day-Lewis and TLee Jones' acting.
