Just saywthe movie The Prestige...

Question

people said to watch it..good twists..so i did

I get the jest of the movie about the rivalry between the 2 men and so forth. Bale's character had a twin..i get that.

but one aspect of it threw me....can someone tell me what was that lightning machine Hugh was using in his act and how did he faked his death? Does that machine reproduce people...make doubles? If so how? You get the idea it does when they show all the hats and the 2 cats....
and at the very end they show Hugh's body still in the water tank.

I get the whole suspend belief when watching movies but i can't wrap my mind around this

so is that it...did the machine create doubles? how?

ive tried to watch it but i cant understand michael caines voiceover in the 1st few minutes, i have no clue what he is saying and ive tried to watch it like 3 times...his accent ..i dunno i just cant understand him

i loved that movie and will try and help. first, when they tried the machine at first with the hats, it created two hats, one of which stayed by the machine and the other one which obviously showed up outside. so when hugh does his act, 2 people are created. one of them is shown up on the balcony and the other was falls into the tank of water, and ends up dying. he does this because you can&#x27;t have your clones running around after you do the trick. thats why when he first tried the machine he carried the gun and shot the other one. he is basically cloning himself and then killing the clone in the tank of water. hope that helps

yuice, i think what you are saying is pretty accurate because that was my take on what was happening... i like the line at the end when hugh said something along the lines "sometimes i don&#x27;t even know if i&#x27;m the man in the box or the man on the other side" or something like that... i think that&#x27;s why he had that other identity at the end of lord caldwell (??) at the end

i figured thats why he had the pistol readygood movie..enjoy Bale as an actor ( see him in Rescue Dawn and the Machinist...great jobs he does )thnx yuice20
