LeRink Love the Muppets. I spent several years watching nothing but kid movies with my daughter. Got a appreciation for good animation.
The movie I finally saw this month is a clear 180 degree from anything for children. It's called Little Children. It's a serious movie and probably hard to watch for most. Kate Winslett is great. Fantastic great.A guy named Jackie Earle Haley puts on a great performance. Don't expect alot of comedy or werewolves or road trips. This is tough stuff.

Safe (2012) Jason Statham's latest action flick has some great fight scenes
definately looking forward to seeing Safe. Jason Statham is my fav action actor. when there is nothing worth watching on TV I find myself going for either Snatch or Crank: High Voltage.

The Seven Samurai (1954). recorded last week during a TCM Toshiro Mifune marathon. have seen it numerous times but not recently and forgot just what a GREAT piece of movie art this is by Akira Kurosawa. spawned the classic 1960 American western "The Magnificent Seven" which has almost the exact same plot.
I also recorded the 1961 Kurosawa classic Yojimbo with Mifune as the "samurai ronin" Sanjuro, which spawned both the 1964 Sergio Leone "spaghetti western" A Fistful of Dollars that turned Clint Eastwood into a star AND the 1996 Bruce Willis prohibition era gangster action movie Last Man Standing. like Seven Samurai-Magnificent Seven, BOTH have the exact same plot as Yojimbo. in fact, Kurosawa sued Leone for stealing his plot without credit or royalty payment.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (2011) it's a movie remake remake of the seven part 1979 BBC-TV series with featured Alec Guinness as George Smiley. the original 1974 John le Carre spy novel was based on the British Cambridge Five traitors in the 1950.
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie and considered going to a theater to view it when it came out because of the TV series. glad I didn't waste my money.
SHOULD have been excellent with Gary Oldman as George Smiley, John Hurt as Control, recent Oscar winner Colin Firth as Bill Haydon, PBS "Sherlock Holmes" actor Benedict Cumberbatch as Peter Guillam, David Dencik as Toby Esterhase and Toby Jones as Percy Alleline. with that lineup, this should have been HUGE hit with spy mystery fans BUT it's SO plodding thru the first two thirds of the movie and SO convoluted that it's almost impossable to follow. jumped around the timeline A LOT and I found myself having to "page back" to try and follow.
the last 40 minutes FINALLY puts the plot together and somewhat saves the movie BUT it's NO where as good as the 1979 BBC series, le Carre's book OR the real story of the Cambridge Five spy ring.
I would say unless you are a die hard "spy story" fan BUT it's sure NO James Bond or even a 1965 The Spy Who Came in from the Cold with Richard Burton which was also written by le Carre. my greatest disappointment in a movie since going to see Prometheus

Blitz (2011) watched last night on Showtime and it's a MOST excellent "Dirty Harry" style British action crime drama with Jason Statham as a Harry Callahan type London detective sergeant chasing a serial killer of police officers.
starts out very fast with Statham's character Tom Brant beating the shit out of three punks trying to steal a car with an "hurley" which is a stick used in the Irish game of Hurling which sets that Brant is a "rouge" cop that bends the rules. like in "Dirty Harry" you KNOW who the murderer is early on. the question is, can the police catch the bastard and after that can they make charges stick?
it's pretty much non-stop action and Statham us GREAT as usual as is the rest of the cast. runs an hour and a half and I definately recommend it. I'm somewhat suprised it hasn't had much "press". it's on showtime again Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th. IF you don't have Showtime, I would get it off Netflix or another internet movie provider, it's THAT GOOD
FOR SURE!!!

1408 (2007) recorded off Fox Movies a couple months ago and just happened to watch last night. VERY under-rated psyco-horror film from a Stephen King short story. well acted by both John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. it's basically a "one man play" by Cusack in the scenes where he is stuck in room 1408 and Jackson proves that he's also excellent in "non-thug" rolls. gets somewhat "convoluted" at the end BUT overall it's excellent and has a number of good "startle" scenes.
I would say

Malice in Wonderland (2009) Brit gangster movie very loosly based on Alice in Wonderland. pretty convoluted and tough to figure who the Lewis Carroll characters are BUT Maggie Grace is VERT tasty as Alice esp after she gets the person makeover.

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) watched this classic sequel to the original Frankenstein with Boris Karloff as the monster, Elsa Lanchester as the writer Mary Shelly AND the monster's bride, Colin Clive as Dr Henry Frankenstein, Valerie Hobson as Elizabeth (VERY tasty in her day) as Henry's fiancee, Ernest Thesiger (who was in a LOT of early horror) as Dr Pretorius and the great comic actress Una O'Connor as Minnie the town "gadfly". STILL one of the BEST "horror" fims ever made and I think even better than the original.
the music sound track by Franz Waxman used classic Wagner style "leitmotifs" for the monster, his bride, Henry& Elizabeth and Dr Pretorius. the same basic sound track was also used in numerous movie "serials" back in the 1930's like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. still some of the best "spooky music" ever. ref >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFJvQZtbIu0&feature=related

The Landlord (1970) just happened to catch it on Turner Classic Movies and it's a pretty good "dark comedy" about a rich "WASP" that buys a getto apartment guilding. some VERY funny scenes and one liners. stars a young Beau Bridges as the young man that buys the building, Lee Grant as his mother, Pearl Bailey and a young Louis Gossett, Jr.
