Movies you saw in February

Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005). watched this fantasy adventure the other night and thought it was REALLY good. it's kind of a Jumanji in outer space where playing a "space racing" game transports the two young brothers house into the cosmos. starts out rather slow but once the house is transported it's pretty much nonstop action with good suspense and excellent special effects AND has a crazy "plot twist" at the end.

IF you like fantasy adventure films I think you will enjoy this one. plays again on Starz channels Tuesday Feb 4th, Wednesday Feb 5th and Friday Feb 7th   

'After Earth'...Not good, not horrible.

But I'm a sucker for sci-fi, and I thought the look of the film was kinda sweet., the futuristic parts, not the jungle part.

me too for sci-fi BUT I thought this SHOULD have been titled afterbirth because it was a bloody MESS. definite  it plays on the Starz channels all the next week IF you want to waste your time. relatively short @ only 100 minutes BUT it IS time you will NEVER get back in your life  

re: After Earth. you can be pretty sure a movie is going to STINK when it get an 11% on Rotten Tomatos AND is compared to Battlefield Earth as the WORST Sci-Fi movie EVER. I personally thought it was even WORSE. at least B-E had a PLOT and some decent ACTION in spots.

was also it is nominated in 6 categories for this years Golden Raspberry Awards. Worst Picture. Worst Actor - Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son). Worst Supporting Actor - Will Smith (maybe his worst part ever). Worst Director. Worst Screenplay AND special category Worst Screen Combo - "Jaden Smith and Will Smith on planet nepotism"

I'm not ashamed to say I'm a fan of all things jackass. (Except for that stupid 'Wild Boys'  s h i t. That doesn't count.

42 (2013) reviewed a couple months ago after watching on PPV. this story of Jackie Robinson breaking the "color barrier" with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 is one of the BEST acted historical dramas I have seen in a long time. relatively unknown actor Chadwick Boseman is excellent as Jackie Robinson as is Nicole Beharie as his wife Rachel. Harrison Ford could have won awards for his portrayal of Dodgers owner Branch Rickey. IF you like baseball OR just modern American history, you will enjoy this movie runs Sunday Feb 9th and all the next week on HBO. definite   

Basic was a movie that was a lot better than I thought it would be.  Kept me interested throughout.

A good day to die hard would have been a better day if I had done something else.  I usually agree with all your movie reviews, but I was very disappointed in this one.  But it had a lot to live up to.

Nebraska (2013) Bruce Dern, Will Forte, Stacey Keach.

Dern is an old drunk that thinks he has hit it big when gets a letter telling him that he has won a million dollars in a sweepstakes entry.  He convinces his son to drive him from Billings Montana to Lincoln Nebraska to collect the winnings.  They meet various friends and family along the way and becomes an interesting story about who Dern's character was.  I thought it was a great movie.   

Agreed doggs  Thief is a film-noir classic!

plays just about every night week of Feb 9th thru 16th on HBO

reviewed Stand Up Guys (2012) last month BUT thought it worth a mention again I enjoyed it that much. pretty much unknown and under-rated gangster "buddy comedy" with Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin. thought it was VERY funny in spots esp the chase scene with old geezer Arkin showing off his skills as a getaway driver. short movie @ 95 minutes with pretty much non stop action. playing again on EPIX 1 Tuesday Feb 11th   

Hitchcock (2012) also previously reviewed but playing again on HBO Friday Feb 14th, Saturday Feb 15th and Monday Feb 17th. story of the making of making of Psycho with Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh and James D'Arcy as Anthony Perkins. VERY well acted by all involved. D'Arcy esp really captures Perkins mannerisims.   

Iron Man 3  (2013) started out a little slow BUT picked up in a hurry once the "stuff that goes boom" started happening. overall thought it was the BEST of the series so far. the villains were "hot" (literally) and was pretty cool to have Ben Kingsley as "The Mandarin". thought Ty Simpkins as "the kid' Harley Keener was an interesting character. I'm kind of wondering IF he will show up as a "Robin" type character to Tony Stark in future movies? overall had the constant action, excellent CGI and general mayhem expected from Iron Man with a couple of interesting "plot twists"

plays again on Starz Wednesday Febuary 12th, Thursday Feb 13th and Sunday Febuary 16th. definite    for action fans
