A Certain Kind of Death
(Four out of Five Stars)
First off, as a warning, be prepared to deal in subject matter that may just reach the definitive realm of loneliness. This is not an uplifting film and deals with little known lost lives and serves as a reminder of our generally insignificant and fleeting stay in this world. Our identity, after all, is in essence defined by the memory of those who knew us. But if no one who is left alive really knew us, was our existence, therefore, insignificant? Regardless, this is a well shot and edited as well as captivating, albeit disturbing, look at the way in which we as a society deal with our inevitable state: death. There is paperwork to be filled out for everything, folks, and the only good news here is that the paperwork involved with your own death will be handled by someone else. Nevertheless, this is a fascinating look at the bureaucratic process which is cumbersome and aberrant, yet deals with the most expected and unsurprising processes of life: the termination of said life. I found this enthralling and well worth the watch.
