I recently revisited this classic and found it somewhat dated and feel that it suffered a bit from the artistic advances made in cinema since its release. I am not talking about advances in special effects or even cinematography, but in the ability to tell a shockingly real story. While Deliverance offers an excellent comment on transience and the moral complications inherent when we strip away the façade of modern distractions and get back to our animalistic nature, it grips the “river into the heart of darkness” theme a bit too lightly for my taste. Nevertheless, I have to give credit where it is due and this film deserves the acclaim it received for the fine acting and earnest endeavor at thematic realism. The cinematography is pleasant and it will forever be quoted as the “squeal like a pig” scene is unforgettable. If you have never seen it, you should, but it may not be worth the time to see it again.

i saw it for the first time last year and "the scene" amazed me that they pulled that off so long ago...it was shocking for today's standard's and to do it in the '70's must have had people in an uproar.
I thought it was a very good movie that kept my interest and i think alot more could have been to tell the story better but it was def worth seeing.
good write up.
