So there exists in all of our cache’s of memories those certain films… you know, those that you speak of often as classics… the ones that immediately bring shock to your being and facial expressions when someone says that they haven’t ever seen it?!?!?!? However, sometimes, as we speak of or think about these poignant masterpieces of cinematic art, we forget to revisit them for a refresher course. In other words: sometimes you just have to pull out an old classic and remind yourself why it is, and will forever be, part of your life. So the other night, I sat down with a few drinks and a fire blazing in the fireplace and put in Scarface. If, for some strange reason, you have never seen this film, stop reading this now and go watch it. For those of you who were like me a few days ago and haven’t watched it in awhile, do yourself a favor. Pacino is so magically inspired in this film and it really is the crème of the crop when it comes to the gangster/drug war flicks. (And that’s saying a lot because, for whatever reason, this genre has produced a lot of quality works.) The camera work is interesting, the script is riveting, the acting is top notch and it is just downright entertaining. Pacino’s portrayal of Tony Montana is one of the most imitated and referenced for a reason… it is brilliant. Do yourself a favor…
