If you like sappy, melodramatic, big-budget, predictable Hollywood films that might as well just flash the words CRY NOW on the screen when they are trying to affect you emotionally by cheaply bypassing the effort to develop realistic and multidimensional characters and relying instead on the assumption that you are a media created consumer who does as they are told, then, by all means, purchase this one immediately! Leonardo DiCaprio is capable of so much more and I have read that he regrets his association with this overrated film. I can understand why. That being said, it is what it is and doesn’t promise to be anything else. I am shocked to see comments like “great film” associated with this movie, but everyone has their own tastes, I suppose and I am obviously in the minority here. But I am sticking to my gut and saying that the ship couldn’t sink fast enough and, although it looked good when it did, it just wasn’t enough to justify fine filmmaking. Painful for me, but who am I to say… maybe I missed something?
