Watched the first episode of Ripper Street. It was alright but not so good as Copper.

There was some things i did not like. The fact that there is no underlying story. Each episode presents a new crime.

Also it miss a bit of umff that Copper has with all the irish and different cultures that dislike each other.

Yes it is also airing on BBC1 or 2  i think, started sunday evening uk time.

watched episode 2 and didn&#x27;t think it was as near good as the first. the plot was pretty transparent with a "Fagen" type character and his crew of criminal kids. also, as an American, I&#x27;m  having problems understanding the 19th century London dialog. Mrs and I are constantly saying to each other "WHAT did he SAY"?

I think episode 5 was the best so far. I guess the British Empire screwed over their former military veterans as bad is the good old US of A did after Vietnam.

STILL can't understand half the 19th century dialog, though

You could always take a look at the subtitle text for each episode that can be downloaded at various sites. I get than can be a little tedious, but might be helpful so you do not lose some of the plot.

made me feel BAD that young Constable Hobbs got murdered in episode 7. the London Police should have just SHOT ever damn Pinkerton, who were just a bunch of murdering GUN THUGS in real life too.

I really LIKED the character of Hobbs. he was the "every mother's son" of the series. even though it was a small part, I'm suprised they wrote him out of the series.

that being said, I thought the last three episodes have been excellent with episode 7 the BEST so far.

Yes it seems like this show have finally found its legs. I think the scene in the bar where the constable started to sing and then the other joined in.. was strong and emotional.

You should also check out Mr Selfridge when it airs at pbs. It is pretty good, but in a lighter sort of mood.
