big thumbs up....i wasn't sure what to expect going into it but i knew Downey Jr is always worth seeing...

very good, very entertaining, good story and different than most movies

Downey was great as usual, his character and how he protrayed him was awesome

 -Law was pretty good too also the beautil Rachel McAdams is in it, lovely...

recorded a mini-marathon of old Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce 1939 thru 1946 Sherlock Holmes movies on Turner Classic Movies the other night. they are STILL the BEST to ever play Holmes and Watson. and that's not to even mention Dennis Hoey as Inspector Lestrade and Lionel Atwill, Henry Daniell and George Zucco as Professor Moriarty. no one since has EVER come close to their portrayal of those roles.

any other Sherlock Holmes movie I have ever seen has been a disappointment in comparison.

 ya know i saw they were playing a lot of old ones and wanted to check them out, I've never seen them but like I said before I love watching old classics....i'll have to check them out next time I see them on

i agree on the soloist...I wanted to see that but never have yet, I'll be checking that out on HBO, thanks for the heads up

the Rathbone-Bruce Sherlock Holmes films are on TCM pretty regular esp late night or "red eye" hours because they are good "fillers" because they all run from 1:15 to 1:30.

well worth recording

Thought it was ok but unrewarding.

There was zero character development. They jump right in and give you no background on Watson or Holmes. No flashback of how the 2 became partners and friends. Very few clever one liners.

Dont get me wrong, it was a good flick, but if a movie is gonna be over 2 hours they could trow 10 minutes a setup in there.

And not ONCE did he say " Elementary my dear Watson"....

Sherlock Holmes in the books never said that, appears it was said it the old movies though

Although it cannot be exactly certain where the phrase originated from, or when, some people tend to believe it was first heard by the public in the 1929 film Return of Sherlock Holmes, where (in the final scene) Holmes (played by Clive Brook) popped out the famous line, "Elementary, my dear Watson, elementary."
However, the phrase's popularity is most likely tied to "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" tv series; 14 Holmes films produced in 1942 to 1946, starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Watson. The phrase was used in almost every one of the fourteen films. It was probably then that the phrase got its fame.
