It looks awesome, i can not wait.
Made by the same who made Band Of Brothers.
Should be a very epic recreation of the situations that were faced by Soldiers, Salors and Marines in the Pacific Theatre of WWII.
The US commanders who staged these battles were idiots and simply threw thousands of brave US men into certain death will no regard for that. Thier prehistoric plan of storming a fortifed position with unprotected men is almost criminal. The plans could have been carried out in a much more effective way which would have limited the lose of life to US military person from all the branches.
Yes things go wrong in War, but proper preperation prevents piss poor performance. The officers responcible for getting tens of thousand of GI's killed should have stood criminal trials for there parts. Thier haste and criminaly negligant planning cost 5 times the loss of live that could have been averted. Little of this is mentioned in history books available to the public but as a veteran I can tell you thier plan was simply prehistoric and immoral towards the troops of the Allied Forces.
God Bless our troops who not only had to fight the enemy but also overcome the idiots leading them into the carnage.

was a BIG stink about the Palau Islands after the battle because they were a target that didn't really have much of a a strategic position relative to Saipan. Nimitz and Marine General William Rupertus thought that Pelelu and the other islands in the group would be relatively lightly defended and could be easy to taken. turned out their intell was completely wrong.

"It had always been the intention of the American planners to bypass the Carolines and Palaus and to seize the Marianas and Taiwan. From these latter bases communications between the Japanese homeland and Japanese forces to the south and west could be cut. In addition, from the Marianas Japan would be well within the range of an air offensive relying on the new B-29 Superfortress long-range bomber with its range of 1,500 miles" (the "let them die on the vine" strategy).
WHY Nimitz went back to islands like the Palaus AFTER capturing the Marianas, esp with the cost in blood and material, has been a question ever since.

I've really been patiently waiting for this for a long long time. Hope it can at least go nose to nose with Band Of Brothers. I doubt it but my expectations are always high. Thin Red line was the best war movie ever put on a reel.... imo. We'll see.
Let's enjoy it. Hopfully it was done well.

Part I was a complete flop.
wouldn't say "a complete flop" BUT the segments are too short. with the success of Band of Brothers I guess HBO is trying to drag it out to try and get more subscribers. the actual drama was about 45 minutes

I take my comment back. Suppose after watching Band Of Brothers for the 12th time I had the wrong expectations.
Watching Part 1 for the 2nd time was a lot better. Character development and personalities are off to a slow start but It'll get better...I think.
